drum shell material doesn't matter. Absolutely no one can hear the difference between birch, maple or mahogany, other things being equal. I'll give stainless steel a maybe here, but acrylic, same deal: no difference. 99% of what you hear on a drum is basic dimensions + bearing edge + head choice + tuning.

It can be noticeable in clinical side-by-side comparisons, but as far as what ends up on record or switching between backlines at clubs, I totally agree.

  • 4x12 cabinets sound like shit, and don't record well.
  • Most, if not all condenser mics are overrated, way overpriced and sound like shit.
    People who think otherwise are in denial/struggling with buyers remorse.
  • Stereo doesn't exist.
