I think Earl Sweatshirts "Some Rap Songs" is the best thing to come out in the last 10 years.
His newest album "Sick" is very good, but very different from anything he has done before. He set a high bar with "Some Rap Songs"
The Armand Hammer album "Haram" is pretty special. I'm still picking it apart and making sense of it to go back to their older albums.
When it was released I thought the Vince Staples album "Big Fish Theory" was really unique and brave. Made me want to dance with an imaginary woman. I'm not sure how it holds up.
I like Ka.
other things come and go.

+1 on Earl Sweatshirt, Armand Hammer, Vince Staples, and Danny Brown.
+1 on Ka, especially the Orpheus vs. the Sirens record. Haven't checked out the other two mentioned yet, so thanks for those suggestions.
New Benny the Butcher - Tana Talk 4 - is pretty good.
Really enjoyed this Codenine record from last year. Good mix of Wu-Tang style beats and some "no boom, no bap" tracks.

Also Billy Woods. 1/2 of Armand Hammer. Did a cool album with Moor Mother. Much prefer him with Armand Hammer but his solo stuff is still pretty great.

Vince Staples Summertime 06 >>>>> Kendrick TPAB
Absolutely.
Not as big a fan of Staples' new release though. Musically it's not working for me.
Agreed. Kenny Beats simply isn't bringing anything to the table for him to really play with - some of the songs sound like, it's hard to really explain but if it was just written as an acapella freestyle and music spontaneously manifested for it. It's just not interesting, which is a shame given how cool some of his other collabs have been.

It aged extremely well. After the surprise at the form and sound, the songs underneath are solid as hell.

There was a thread on the old board that had a link to a talk with a Public Enemy DJ wherein he talks about how he made beats. It was on Youtube I think.
Does anyone recall what I'm talking about? If so, please help.
Thanks

I recall something about how integral Hank Shocklee was. It may have been him explaining the process or someone else explaining how he worked. Don't remember anything else.
There are talks with him on youtube but not sure if that's it. I remember it though. It was fascinating.

That looks familiar to me. Like it's not what was posted but from the same interview maybe? I distinctly remember him wearing that shirt and noting how cool it was, but he was talking about different stuff -- from memory how his brother and Chuck contributed. How it all happened and came together.
He could wear that shirt a lot, however. I'd wear it everyday.

That's good thank you, but the one I am thinking of is just him and another guy on a stage, IIRC. And I think it was around an hour long.

Now that I know it was Shocklee I was able to find it. This one.

Iceage made a rap song and it's good.
Edit: Just learned this is a cover of a song by Abra.
