Re: The Fearsome and Mammoth Weirdo Guitar Preamp thread.
22I don't remember the original, but I remember that it got attached to a number of topics.MoreSpaceEcho wrote: Wed Jun 29, 2022 9:29 am OT but what was the original "Fearsome and Mammoth" thread? Someone with a better memory than me must remember.
There was a F & M Cartographer thread
F & M Police Teeth
and a number of others.
It'd my duty as a disciple of Torlex to maintain our ancient ways.
Re: The Fearsome and Mammoth Weirdo Guitar Preamp thread.
23I’ve owned a Rath preamp at some point and liked it for both, D.I. recording and running it through a cheapo Roland practice amp
Re: The Fearsome and Mammoth Weirdo Guitar Preamp thread.
24Interesting... A single "Balance" knob between clean/dirty channels, I don't remember seeing that on any other amps.
In a single knob I mean.

25What you see more often is a way to blend two channels with their own volume controls. e.g. 5F6A Bassman, Marshall JTM/JMP. I'd think that those level controls for each channel would be very helpful, almost necessary, to trim each channel to a comparable level. i.e. if the dirt channel is crazy loud compared to clean channel, a single blend knob isnt gonna be of much use. And to that end, if youre gonna have a volume control for each channel, just blend them that way.Teacher's Pet wrote: Wed Jun 29, 2022 12:56 pm Interesting... 26Yeah -- It fits the "weirdo" bill, at least.

27Man, here goes my street credibility...
If I was thinking "Weirdo..."?
The Synergy stuff will apparently accept the old Randall MTS moduar preamp modules. There's also a company called Salvation Mods that reworks the MTS modules.
If I wanted to stay off of the beaten path...
The Super-Drive(Based on the old Naylor Super Drive...)
http://salvationaudio.com/index.php?page=superdrive
The Vamp(Based on the Vampower amps...)
http://salvationaudio.com/index.php?page=vamp
You pair those up?
That would be interesting.

28Pretty sure that my brother still has the rack unit that I bought for fifty bucks when I was in my early twenties. At least one guy is a fan.Kniferide wrote: Mon Jun 27, 2022 6:08 pmThese are the types of things I see in pawn shops and the lesser music stores that have been over priced and collecting dust for 20 years. I used to see those BK Butler Tube Works preamps in shops a lot and was curious about them, but never played one.benadrian wrote: Mon Jun 27, 2022 5:33 pm I'd never heard of this until 30 seconds ago.

30I wasn't previously aware Fender used "M-80" for multiple products. They made a bass combo w/ this moniker (from the era of the light-grey rat fur IIRC) that had a chorus on it that I really loved. A bit of a shame it's not on this pre-amp as well.
