Quit screwing around:
EV TL 303.

Re: TL606 - Stepdown?
22Good lord.
Might be better at that point to literally use an old fridge as the cabinet.
Re: TL606 - Stepdown?
23This is amazing, I had no idea there was a TL spec & builders plans for this. I knew about the TL405 and I thought THAT was pretty absurd but this here...is even more ridiculously batshit. I've lived in bedrooms smaller than that box. And yes of course now I want to build one. Probably permanently affixed with trailer hitch, wheels, and plates.
The EV 30W Patrician speaker itself though has been in every available alert for online shopping that I can enter it in for past 10-20 years or so...
...but apparently there are enough nutballs like me out there in love with this stupid and unwieldy old bastard that they've been way, way out of my price range; certainly too much for the lulz that I wanted it for. It's an amazing speaker though - It can literally do 15 hz. .
They don't come up often but if anyone sees one, HMU.
Re: TL606 - Stepdown?
24Update: So this has me down a small hole revisiting this stupid, stupid speaker.
As it turns out, it looks like there was a mfg I had never heard of before called University Sound that was focused on the commercial market...and through several series of buyouts not uncommon in the music mfg biz, where they were bought out by Altec and then later mid-80s they came under the same umbrella as EV. Looking through the linked catalog, this is well-apparent as there are quite a few easily-recognizable rebranded EV products in the catalog.
Anyway, it looks like my search can be expanded because the 30W (official name of this ridiculous 30" speaker) was also sold under the University Sound brand name as well. And as it turns out, there's a NOS one in Milwaukee: https://www.ebay.com/itm/166111668860
But of course, as expected it's $1k which is a lot of money to spend for about $100 worth of novelty.

Re: TL606 - Stepdown?
25I never knew about any of this.
So you just cover up the center port?
And...you add lows in the preamp EQ to compensate?
Sounds like covering the port limits speaker excursion <55Hz so you can get true freq response down to 40Hz...but the -3dB point for the low end cut goes up?

Re: TL606 - Stepdown?
26Since this is kinda the catch-all now for all things TL-606 and TL-806 related, true nerds I hope will appreciate this article written by THE GUY who designed these cabinets!
PDF format of 2017 article:
https://audioxpress.com/files/attachment/2644
The article is technically about how a 30" speaker (the aforementioned 30W "Patrician") in a giant box was able to do what is being done w/ 18"s and a LOT of power today
-BUT-
there's a TON of really, REALLY cool info in here - especially the photos that show some of the lesser-known (and significantly less-transportable) speaker cabs from the series of TL builders plans. Also included in this artcle:
- what does "TL" stand for?
- what does the numbering convention actually signify (if anything?)
- what is the connection to ProCo sound?
- how many people can fit inside a stupidly massive speaker box?
