I just replaced the capsule in my TLM103 with one of the DIYMics caps (Roswell mics build it yourself branch, same parts) It sounds great. way cheaper than buying the Neumann replacement and to my ears sounds just as good, if not exactly the same.bassdriver wrote: Sun Feb 05, 2023 6:25 am great thread! would be nice if Warm Audio would make their version of a M380.
in the meantime I had the chance to buy a mic that might be relevant to this thread. got a great deal (260$) on a Roswell Mini K47 KD that was only used in 2 sessions.
„The Mini K47 KD is a handbuilt microphone for high SPL applications: kick drum, floor tom, bass cab, brass.
We've retained our incredibly popular K47 capsule, as found in the Mini K47. We've crafted a new circuit that is optimized for high SPL capture with minimal noise, huge bottom end, and high headroom."

22Or a British gamer from the early 80s? Well, maybe not, but I'd never be able to look at that mic without thinking of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alien_8Garth wrote: Tue Dec 06, 2022 7:42 am Visuals don't really matter that much but...ugly as hell tho innit - at least the dumb ass stickers on the yoke anyway (& that name - was it named by a edgelord gamer from the early aughts?)

24That’s good to know! Their DIY kits look great too.Kniferide wrote: Mon Jul 24, 2023 2:23 pmI just replaced the capsule in my TLM103 with one of the DIYMics caps (Roswell mics build it yourself branch, same parts) It sounds great. way cheaper than buying the Neumann replacement and to my ears sounds just as good, if not exactly the same.bassdriver wrote: Sun Feb 05, 2023 6:25 am great thread! would be nice if Warm Audio would make their version of a M380.

25Looks like that Australian company that is making the Alien8 with two headphone drivers now has a Capsule8 with just one:

26I ended up buying the Alien8 some time after I posted in this and it’s a great mic. It has something I felt was missing from the RE20 and D112.tallchris wrote: Mon May 20, 2024 11:03 am Looks like that Australian company that is making the Alien8 with two headphone drivers now has a Capsule8 with just one:

I also have their Wormhole mic, which is super cool around a bass cab. Great for getting a little bit of upright like bloom in an electric bass, but it’s capable of other stuff.
Anyways, I haven’t tried the Capsule8, but I’m sure it rules. It’s also nice that the mics are all reasonably priced.

27Damn, hahaha, thats hilarious!Garth wrote: Tue Dec 06, 2022 7:42 am The mic itself sounds good, pretty good natural sound for an inside-the kick application.
Visuals don't really matter that much but...ugly as hell tho innit - at least the dumb ass stickers on the yoke anyway (& that name - was it named by a edgelord gamer from the early aughts?) but the mic itself looks cool - I'd peel that sticker off the side immediately. I'm also always a little nervous seeing anything that's been built w/ a hard-wired cable.
It's also a little on the pricey side for what it is, but in fairness I have been considering one of the U47 fet clones from Warm & they're 2x as much and intended app is/was much the same.
I'm not quite an edgelord gamer but yes the name is a bit cheesy. Glad you liked the sound of the demos you heard!

28Holy fuck. Welp, I'm the asshole here! Not the first time that's happened.
Sincere apologies for insults on the aesthetics. I know it's impossible to please everyone but re-reading what I wrote was embarrassing AF. And when it comes to naming/aesthetics, I cannot stress this enough: it shouldn't matter anyway since you can't see a mic when you're listening to a finished mix...
Your products and ideas are really cool and interesting despite the low key pot shots of some rando on the internet (me) who hasn't actually gone to market with a product of his own (see also semi-famous quote from FM Steve about gold records).
In fact I give you major props for not just creating another U47 clone or whatever like 1000000 other startups are doing.
Stay weird! Rooting for you! Major props for responding in a super professional manner! Ignore me while I go crawl into a cave for the rest of eternity!

30Haha, no need for a cave crawl! I know there was no offence intended and none was taken, it really did just strike me as being very funny.Garth wrote: Wed May 22, 2024 10:09 am Holy fuck. Welp, I'm the asshole here! Not the first time that's happened.

Anyway, always happy to hear feedback on DrA stuff. You're certainly not the first person to mention the sticker on the mount. The only reason I haven't changed it is that it can be removed easy enough anyway
Thanks!
