About half of the first one is great. The other half, Join The Army and How Will I Laugh… are in the “it’s crap but I like it” category. The fucking Macho Man vocals, wtf.
Anything with Robert Trujillo on it blows. He perfected his technique of re-recording someone else’s parts in order to deny them their royalties for “Still Cyco…”, which served him well as Sharon Osbourne’s hatchet man. If rock musicians had a union he would never get money for his dad-bass bullshit again.
Re: Band: Suicidal Tendencies
22The first record is fine if you're 12.
Have only heard the two albums thereafter but Jesus, what garbage. Crossover as a subgenre isn't generally so hot (ok, COC has its moments), but Suicidal Tendencies is quite poor even by those standards.
Tough-guy crapola.

Re: Band: Suicidal Tendencies
23There’s some great crossover. Cryptic Slaughter, their Japanese clone Roserose, and I would say The Accüsed count as crossover… DRI and ST are kind of the mediocre starter pack bands.
Re: Band: Suicidal Tendencies
24I have no nostalgic feelings towards them and listening back to even their best-regarded stuff makes me feel better about kind of liking early blink-182.
CRAP
(I realize blink-182 is 10+ years later and not even the same style of punk, but they are forever associated in my mind as form-over-function SoCal bands.)

25Yes, the Accüsed are quite good! And not crossover per se, but the 2xLP of early 10 Minute Warning material (w/Blaine still singing) is worthy and related.biscuitdough wrote: There’s some great crossover. I used to think the first DRI LP was disposable fun and sort of worth a begrudging pass. But I probably haven't heard it since 1991 or so. I bet it's aged poorly. Definitely something to lump in w/that first Suicidal album, for sure. Both will forever be associated w/some kid in middle school during the '80s.
There's a ton of quasi-crossover (but not actual crossover) metal-tinged hardcore that's way more interesting: the Maurice demo, Fading Out, Void...
Re: Band: Suicidal Tendencies
26Don't forget Carnivore's Retaliation, which is probably crossover at its best.biscuitdough wrote: Sun Nov 27, 2022 1:06 pm There’s some great crossover. I'd rather be throwing darts.
Re: Band: Suicidal Tendencies
27I had both on the same cassette in middle school in 1990, so you kinda got me in a box here.OrthodoxEaster wrote: Sun Nov 27, 2022 1:29 pmbiscuitdough wrote: There’s some great crossover. 29This ain't even my favorite tune, but there is not arguing with that intro. It is solid gold.

30Pretty sure this tune just about swiped the breakdown riff form "Angel Of Death".
I don't even care. It is evergreen.
