This is an angle I hadn't considered (I don't know much about this publication or its rigor):

"Our findings show that when speed cameras are doing the ticketing, the proportion of tickets issued to Black and white drivers aligns closely with their respective share of roadway users. With human enforcement, in contrast, police officers stop Black drivers at a rate that far outstrips their presence on the road.

For instance, on roads where half of drivers are Black, Black drivers receive approximately 54% of automated camera citations. However, they make up about 70% of police stops.

On roadways where half of the drivers are white, white drivers account for around half of automated citations – and less than 20% of police stops. "

Crap. First off, they never put speed cameras where they'd help (eg- work zones). They are very obviously DESIGNED to trick you. Multiple spots here post the speed limit as 30mph, then a second sign, 20 feet beyond the first, obscured by trees or parked trucks, will say 20mph. 20 mph is fucking RIDICULOUS. It's almost difficult to idle that slowly. They should take the revenue out of the pockets of people who treat roads as drag strips. 10-fold. not people who inadvertently went 6 mph over. And dumb fuck kids who shut down the expressway to do donuts should have their cars confiscated and sold for tax revenue. And no chance of a drivers license for AT LEAST 5 years.

The UK always had a 10% rule, so if you were within 10% of the limit the police would let it go - though that seems to be increasingly getting sidelinded.

This is a good argument in favor of them.

I dunno. My experience is that wealthy take ANY aspersion of their Extra Special Status as a personal affront and will huff and puff and show up in court to contest this sort of thing because HOW DARE THEY, etc.
