At what point can we just fucking stop with the guitar solos? Why does every fucking song call for one? Fucking maddening.

Some music calls for a lot of instrument solos. In the Floyd, you aren’t going to have a bass solo or a drum solo. Certainly are a few keyboard solos in their albums, but, yeah, guitar solos dominate.

If you don’t like instrument solos, I don’t recommend you listen to classical music.

Dude. Guitar solos. Enough with the fucking guitar solos! Every fucking song.

You're making my point. I want trombone solos. Harmonica solos. Bass solos. I'll take a fucking novelty saw solo over a guitar solo. I'm a guitarist primarily and I'm starting to hate fucking guitarist with the fucking presupposition that we get a fucking solo in every fucking song.

My anger is not directed at you. :)

Don’t be dumb. Rock music is most commonly played by a four piece band, half being guitars. One of the positions is “Lead Guitar”. Rock music is one of the great inventions of the 20th century, and it is perfect. Feel free to listen to Jackyl for a breath of fresh air, and see if that improves the experience. Otherwise, there are entire musical genres that have no solos. Complaining that Pink Floyd play some nice guitar solos is like saying that bikinis are vulgar. Let the boy loose.

Any way to eliminate the world of this unnecessary band, please. By all means. If it takes legal mushrooms, LFG.

Inspired by the other Floyd thread I just happened to listen to the whole LP yesterday. I was a teen when this came out and it was a pretty big record in my life - all those feelings of alienation and weirdness - here were a group of fellas that understood!!! I think that context is a big part of how you relate to this album - I sure as hell can’t imagine any modern kid connecting with it now - the themes are there but the delivery mechanism ain’t…

Hard to seperate it from the film, which I always enjoyed too. Some great songs - numb, mother etc, but lots of padding. It is an incredibly bleak record - which might be part of its appeal…can’t imagine ever needing to hear it again - maybe just “in the flesh” from time to time

Overinflated and overindulgent? Sure… but kudos for running with a creative vision and trying to explore new shit

+1

I'm sort of disappointed that the Guardian of Fun didn't make an appearance last night.

Beware the Hammett-syndrome where not having a guitar solo will date your music to “now”

10/10 reference. That scene was like watching a puppy being kicked in the nuts, amplified by the victim looking like a balding spaniel.
