Absolutely with you on this. I grew up in small town New Zealand were “the norm” was Metallica, AC/DC maybe Slayer and Cannibal Corpse if you were cool. I rebelled by listening to Bauhaus and the Cure.

In my 40s I also heard Reign in Blood and was floored. It sounded like it could have been recorded yesterday. I’m all in now.

Also Sunn0)))… they were “there” for the past twenty years. Then I got them around Life Metal.

I think you have to be really into drone to appreciate them recorded, otherwise, need to see 'em.

All the mentions of Slayer have my fist in the air! south of heaven and reign in blood were the first thrash outside of high on fire that really hit me and made me want more. I loved them once I got it.

I remember clearly when I was young, going to the Dells with my cousin, riding in the back of my aunt and uncle's station wagon with my Walkman and a freshly opened cassette tape of Reign in Blood.

I've had Shriekback's "Oil & Gold" for years ("Nemesis" being a certified Goth Club Banger) but can't say I ever gave the album more than a few listens.

After Dave Allen's passing I went back to their early stuff and really got into it. Care in particular is really great, wears its 80's production really well, kinda like Kate Bush and Japan do. I'm a sucker for post-punk songs built around repetitive, hypnotic basslines and they did it particularly well. Tench is cool too.

I remember Go Bang! being pretty dreadful so I'm in no hurry to revisit their post-DA material.
