and what you're doing here, being all condescending at a straw man you've constructed (you really think Andy Dragon is out to impress?), is this done for the good of humanity? or are you maybe jumping on a chance to elevate yourself by shitting on mr Dragons?

HA HA HA HA HAAA HAAAAA!

is this really how your brain works? you think it's about being impressed by a geneology? maybe what's going on here is a doude who really, really freakin loves music, maybe he's interested in sharing some suggestions about some of the finest music ever made, in the interest of expanding the horizons of somebody who's had the misfortune of never coming across a band better than Everclear, who suck major ass and are apparently only capable of writing one or two songs over and over and over...

huh? toomany?? were we talking? i guess so. are you angry's angrier girlfriend? is that the deal here? well, it's ok if you take offense ... when i was like 19 i took alot of clout in what is and is not good music too. but i mean, why tell someone about "some of the best music ever made"? why not just refer him to a series of rock-write books written before 1985 which could just jet'm him to your brand of forward-thinking in 500 pages or less?

look i'm not trying to start anything; who cares? i'm just saying before you start berating (again) poor sir malling, let's just all come together and agree on the fact that we all tend to drop obscure band names (or totally mainstream for shock-value, you know... you so can argue it -- or maybe cause you actually like it) to make ourselves feel good. don't try and defend it.

Those were good recommendations. Although I only own the Beefheart record and listened to Silver Mt Zion Tra La La etc etc. in passing. That's a great introduction to the Captain- it also made me realize Tom Waits has been stealing from Van Vliet's stash for the better part of two decades.

Everclear- Get over it already.

I'd say they're about 1/4 as good as Dishwalla, who are only 1/8 as good as the Counting Crows. Also: you don't write a song about Volvo-driving soccer moms and expect to get any sort of clout.

ok, being completely stupid with the keyboard aside, how can yall actually say everclear are totally bad. dude's just being old as shit and doin' his thing. so maybe it's a little obvious (or completely obvious) but you can't say a song like "father of mine" isn't the most singalongable coverable song ever. ok, not ever. but it's still pretty great. and no, i am not an everclear (or others bands of the same ilk) fan. so let's just all agree that everyone is way too attached to their exquisite, finely tuned, tastes; and start listening to the radio.

What does any of this have to do with me goddamn it!

And the decibul meter?

Are you kidding? Watermellon aint gonna hear shit in capn beef, maybe can, but thats a stretch. At this point, billy corgan is a lot closer to george micheal and hanson than he is to John Fahey or This Heat. Faheys swami period is a whole lot more acceptable/palatable than corgans foetus in matrix look he was sporting at the end of the pumpkins. Unfortunatly, like metallica, billy c has taken his persona a whole lot more seriously than his tunage.

I figure that since only of these bands are still around, even if he doesn't like any of these bands, we shouldn't have to hear him bitch about $40 hoodies because I'm pretty sure that Silver Mt. Zion doesn't have them and they rarely play in the US.

It's unfortunate. The staff at the Rathskeller like to whip out the
decibel meter, too. And when the East End was catching flak
from it's neighbors, they'd check decibel levels(they still lost that
fight). I'm sceptical about the accuracy of one of those meter's,
at least using one inside an enclosed area. If it measures the
"pressure" of sound waves, it stands to reason that the pressure
would be higher in a room, as opposed to in the open. At one
time, the world record for the loudest band in the world was
held by Motorhead, at something like 125 decibels. I'm sure
that Motorhead were playing in an arena of some sort at the
time. Which means either the Treats boys have placed their
faith in the wrong device and/or felt like giving you some shit.
Unless; you were playing just shy of Motorhead levels, in which
case, I salute you.
