CRAP
Are you sure it wasn't the 2 CD remix set? That is a true low-point in modern music. The only people that came out of that ordeal with any shred of dignity were Eno and Bruce Gilbert who wisely chose to work on tracks that had little merit originally. The people who tried to do something with 'Vitamin C' fared a whole lot worse, although nothing in that set has anything close to worthwhile.
The original pre-MCI Can were an unstoppable, near-infallible machine propelled by one of the greatest drummers and one of the most imaginative engineers ever. Can explored the intersection of improvisation and composition and made extensive, highly creative use of technology to reconcile the impulsive nature of performance with the carefully studied and constructed nature of editing. They also absorbed ideas from many cultures and formed a junction between the academic pursuits of European electronic music and the blues, folk and jazz roots of rock and roll - the progenitors of cut and paste soul music if you will.
Essential music.

CAN doo right. NOT CRAP. Probably from 19-23 they were one of only 5 or so bands/people that i listened too. Everything else was subpar.

Halloween night, I was in the Times Square/42nd subway station for a few minutes. There was a group of dancers performing for a bunch of tourists- I'd say 150 people were watching them.
These guys were breakdancing to "Vitamin C"!!! They made a bunch of tourists listen to Can!!!
Salut, the boo-ga-looers!

i've picked up the remasters of Tago, Ege, and Future days. all sound great. i'm not usually one to say certain music should only be played in certain contexts but driving to Ege was great, on the highway at least. i've never heard the original mixes but either way i love how the record is almost all drums. like they set up the mix like this:
DRUMS
everything else
but it sounds great. almost everything by them i have heard sounds like a left turn. every change in the music surprises me because none of them are based on what i consider normal rock music conventions yet most of it avoids the traps of "weird for weird's sake" (except the shit where there is one sound every 10 seconds or so)

Calling Landed 'unlistenable' or 'crappy' just seems incredibly wrong to me... especially after listening to "Unfinished" I prefer Landed to Soon Over Babaluma, though not over what preceded it. But, the ones afterwards are far far more spotty than Landed. I'm hoping people aren't just dismissing these later albums only on the basis of them being the ones where overdubs were used.

I heard some of
Landed last night for the first time and it didn't sound too bad.

Not crap, but there was a l'il crap in the old catalog, as with most Krautrockers.
No WF though, because the good stuff is amazing.
Currently, we're 94% not crap
6% crap.
The *exact* inverse of the Courtney Love poll. That means somebody here loves Courtnry Love and hates Can.
Show yourself!

Well, the drum beat on "Vitamin C" is fucking godhead.
Tago-Mago is brilliant thru and thru.
Malcom Mooney, while not damo had some shining moments.
Anyone ever listen to unlimited edition? There is quite a bit that can be chucked in the bin.But a couple of mooney vocals are quite good.
Even with the crap she is not crap.
