I don't think I'm gonna have much use for their albums at home but again I'm very glad I saw them. The McGuire Theater at the Walker was a terrific venue for that show -- big black foggy vibrating cube of DOOOOOOOOOOO))M.
I found Boris slightly boring at points but pretty good overall; they'd probably be much better seen in a rock club. Oren Ambarchi was great.
Also: the spectacle of Atsuo, hooded and robed in black, standing on boxes with wires in both hands --
-- can't possibly have been anything but a deliberate reference to this:
Very disturbing. When he started staggering blindly toward the audience and climbing over seats and people, I about had a seizure. I'm not sure whether the lack of explicit context made it more disquieting or less so. Without knowing how long Sunn O)) have been doing this, I'm surprised to have found no mention of it in any review or interview, not that I've searched exhaustively. Is it so obvious and/or sensationalistic that writers are reluctant to bring it up? Or maybe the band just thought it looked cool and had nothing more in mind; but somehow I really doubt that.
