I was really too old for a first show in my life.

Anyway, it wasn't possible to see U2 because they successfully ignored third world trying to conquer the west.

It didn't stop Gang of Four (1981) or Sonic Youth and EN (1985) - they were real pioneers.

My first show was also the Ramones but a few years earlier in 1984 in Blacksburg, VA at Burruss Auditorium (Virginia Tech's campus). I was 13. The Ramones hung out at the donut shop on College Ave. after the show. They signed autographs. They were the shit.

First show: Skid Row, with Pantera opening. Pantera were at the height of their powers, and handily blew Skid Row off the stage. I believe this was 1993.

First indie rock show: House of Large Sizes. A very important band to me.

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers at the Met Center in Bloomington, MN (now the IKEA parking lot) in 1989. It was sweet. Lenny Kravitz opened.
