very good.
but i'd throw on On The Beach or Zuma first...
oddly enough i didn't have a copy of this until someone bought it for me a few years ago.

I love all three of these records, but I just don't see how Tonight's the Night always seems to be a distant third in this trilogy for everybody on the board.
It's #1, easily [<-TtN]. Zuma is more great for it's cohesiveness, the guitar tone, and Crazy Horse at its finest.

23An astounding, painful album. Utterly beautiful even as it's manifestly clear that Neil and the band are wasted. I don't even want to know how much Cuervo Neil must have taken out before recording this one...
I don't listen to it too often, but it's an A+, no questions asked.
"Albuquerque" is a song most bands could never dream of writing. The pain, the beauty...it's a song in a thousand. ok. I need to cut this out. But I'll leave off with "Speakin' Out": the first few bars of that guitar solo contain some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard, and I can't even explain why I love it so much.

Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.

25There's something glorious about a record that's such a high-wire act like this: to my ears Neil et. al. seem like they're barely able to keep it together at all, much less able to produce a record of such heart-breaking honesty and astounding beauty.

Yep, sounds like a real healthy vibe going into this one.

"The death of Neil's discovery and friend, Danny Whitten seems to have affected him deeply. Since 'The Needle & the Damage Done' most of Neil's songs about Danny's death reflect his guilt complex. Neil seemed to fall back into an even deeper depression. Then he began drinking, became sentimental and generally intolerable for anyone who had anything to do with him. It's said that those around him treated him with great caution for fear of provoking him, causing him to retreat and become a recluse. During this evening at the Rainbow, Neil makes particular reference to Miami Beach where he was safe from external influences and where a highly emotional and introverted process went its course

27The song "Come On Baby Let's Go Downtown" comes from the recently released Live at Fillmore East album. This comes highly recommened by Tree.

29Great album filled with great songs. I also really love Time Fades Away, that one has nearly been forgotten, I guess because the guy made so many great records up until 1979 or so.

30Apparently the Vinyl's been reissued without any remastering. Anyone know how it sounds?
