Went for a surf this morning and got back to my car and my wallet and phone had been stolen out of my car. Apparently the lock box cannot be hung on the door handle lest the fob be in too close proximity to the sensor. Dude just walked up and put his hand on the door handle and "click." In and out in 5 seconds probably. Been doing this for 5 years and no problem. Feels weird not having a phone. Lesson learned. I needed a new phone anyway and was due for an upgrade. Dealing with DMV for a new DL is gonna suck.

That’s super sucky. Hope your remediations go as smoothly as possible.

This immediately makes me want to check if someone can unlock my car door if I park outside of my garage at home. At any given point, if I’m in my house, I’m guessing my keys are less than 20 feet from my car at all times.

Totally. Next time I wrap it in tin foil. The fob has a little actual key that slides out. I need to learn how to use that without setting off the alarm and just tie that into my wetsuit. I hate keyless ignition though. Technology as a whole spends way too much time solving problems that don't exist, and even creating problems that would not exist were it not for said technology.

I got a new phone, which I needed anyway but was delaying to save money, and most of my contacts are still there. My photos however were not backed up so anything not posted to IG is lost.

Little detail from this past week and today:

Went to an all ages indoor punk show last Friday. It was packed and nuts. People (not me) stage diving and screaming. Probably lots of unvaccinated kids there. My wife calls me today and says she cannot taste an Altoid. She's going to get a COVID test right now. We both had two doses Pfizer. I can taste just fine.

Flew out from Oregon to be with my son for his 21st birthday. Drove up to Chicago from Louisville on Sunday. I haven't been back to Chicago since before the forum was a thing, so the first thing I did was drive up to Belmont and have a look at EA.

Since, I have been desperately trying not to have my car towed as we drive around. Did take the train to the White Sox game last night.

Last night, I thought I'd listen to some Dua Lipa, hear what that's all about, but my wife told me to switch the music off after less than ten seconds.
"Ugh. This sounds like I'm in H&M."

(I'm listening to Dua Lipa records in secret now. I quite like them!)

Sorry to hear your phone was stolen, enframed.

I tend to agree. Lucky for me, the near-field keyless ignition on my car (Honda) requires that you are pretty much on top of the vehicle for it to work. It doesn't sound like FM enframed was so lucky.

My wife's car (Jeep) has the added security of needing both a physical turn of the key and an electronic wireless handshake between the fob and the car electronics for it to work. I think I like this the best.

An additional wrinkle-- if only one passenger has a key fob thing in a bag or pocket, and gets dropped off and walks off with it without the engine having been turned off, the driver can drive away and be stranded if he/she/they makes the mistake of turning the car off with the button. Ask me how I know!
