Ian Wade certainly has a gift with words. Nice article indeed, but I'd argue that "Native Love" from Divine was a lot bigger than "You Think You're a Man," at least in Chicago (a stronger song as well). And I like that he gave love to "High Energy" from Evelyn Thomas who recently passed away. That tune was a Hi-NRG anthem as it should have been. Certainly much more raw than most of the hi-nrg tunes released back then. Big ups to Shannon for "Let the Music Play," which is just a joy, and though I wouldn't consider "It's Raining Men" as a hi-nrg bop it is a great song that everyone needs to escape to on a dancefloor at least one time.A_Man_Who_Tries wrote: Wed Jul 31, 2024 7:29 am Nice piece, this.

Here's a supremely funky rework of "Who Is He (And What Is He to You)? from Henrik Schwarz
And another Henrik Schwarz rework of "Chicago" from Roy Ayers. Ayers's original is deep enough but Henrik pushes it down even further until it becomes a cavernous menacing groove. The hook doesn't come in until after 4+ minutes of groove-excavation. What a journey.
