That was kind of my initial instinct, but fortunately he's much more likable than that. He started the whole "they're weird!" trend, which even the young people are down with.
An old gray white man to keep the 75+ crowd engaged and comfortable

He's only 60. Is that old? More x-er than boomer and only a year older than Kamala.

He does look like John McCain though

That MN strain of the old labor-intensive, DFL ideology is one I respect. They eschew anything but fairly solid class policy (for the most part, and granted maybe a LOT has changed since I had any direct action with them).

Walz started a LGBTQ+ club at his school and then turned around and won the high school football championship as a head coach.

Motherfuckers, that right there says a whole lot, particularly out in the sticks, particularly 20+ years ago.

Secondly, if Harris/Walz happen to win, the governor of MN will be Objibwe. That's a first I think, at least in the upper midwest.

Into it. Safe bet, but not fully milktoast.

We were discussing 10+ pages ago how reeducating America on what socialism means is a lost cause at this point. Instead we just need popular policies that benefit people of all classes and combat poverty in any little way we can. While Walz didn't invent free school lunches (our CO students and several other states enjoy them) I love him being the poster boy for them. I can't wait to watch a right wing pundit or candidate shit all over themselves trying to explain how bad he is for feeding children.

I keep hearing "midwestern sensibility" used a lot when referring to Walz, which to the point above harkens more back to the old-school MN DFL sensibility. Lots of outstate MN has turned into blathering Trumpy conspiracy-theory land, but thank crom for the 7 county metro area and pockets of reason in the greater 80. Walz has dad-appeal. When he gave that interview and birthed the whole "they're weird" meme, he looked like he had just finished a Lutheran church league baseball game. He's accessible, not scary, "progressive", and Hell, he legalized pot here. Best of a lot of worlds, though I fully acknowledge my bias.

Tim Waltz looked great in some news segment I saw him in but I also saw some Minnesotans were worried precisely that he would become VP because they wanted to keep him at home lol. Hope they can get someone equally capable to cover.

Tim Walz is awesome. He's been doing great in Minnesota. I was hoping she'd pick him. It's funny, in the r/illinois subreddit, people were freaking out about J.B. being tapped. We don't want to give up our governor, he's doing good shit here.

I think most people wanted Mark Kelly, at least that's what I was seeing overall. That's a senate seat from AZ to give up. Is Walz a safe pick? Honestly, all the candidates have their strengths and weaknesses. I like that they picked the guy who effortlessly pierced the MAGA bubble by just calling it like it is: they're weird.

From the outside he looks ideal. A normal, decent guy that seems to sell progressive politics to moderates.

I liked is response to being called “too liberal”… “yeah, because feeding kids at school makes me the devil”

Plus he talks like a human being. Well done America for not letting your freak flag fly

The guy in the blue shirt rules. The quick cut of him saying “it’s normal for your son to do that” just as the music gets a little horror movie is perfect editing. It cracks me up every time.
