Appreciated, Vaticanshotglass

Weekly Update- super productive, but not very picturesque. I got the bolt on fretted and partially dressed. Just getting started on fretting the bass. Also, my new milling machine showed up, but was DOA and will need to do a heavy freight return...so might be a while before I have one in working order...press on I suppose.

Weekly Update: Bolt on neck is polished and awaiting a template for correct mounting holes for the body it will be mated to.

Bass is coming along- it is sanded to #800 and body has about 2 of the 8-ish coats of finish and is starting to look nice. I was having some doubts about the cherry I had acquired, being so much lighter than the walnut...but I really like the grain, and it is taking on some depth.

next week: side dots and finish sanding the bass. hopefully get close to done w/ the body finish.

Yes!!! looking fantastic. I'm ecstatic for you. Inspiring and also makes me feel deep, deep shame for not already having done this myself.

Sorry for being late on the weekly update again. Dad and Jan were in town for the weekend.

No real progress on the bolt on. Bass is getting close to completion. I wrapped up the finish on the body, started wiring and am kinda working on all the little odds and ends.

I stopped by the practice space yesterday and found an aluminum clipboard in the trash- perfect thickness for back plates and pickup rings. And in the free junk by the door was an extremely battered coffin bass case- should be perfect for this guy.

pics don't seem to be working at the moment, so will post those at some point.

Well, pics are still not working for me...anyone else having this issue?

Bolt on- got the nut on and slotted. Just waiting for the template from the new owner to correctly drill the mounting holes- then it can get a final polish and be on it's way.

Bass- mounted the bridge, cut the nut. I mounted the ibanez tuners- they looked terrible. so I ordered gotoh compacts, should be here friday. I should have it ready otherwise, and hopefully out the door mid next week.

New Order: I was contacted by someone and have started on a next build- 30" bass with rail HB , same body as the current build. I have started the body glue-up and started hacking the billet out of my plate of 6160.

So I ordered a compact mill about 2 months ago. It arrived a month ago, non-functional. So I returned it and ordered a second, which took an extra 2 weeks to arrive. But I am now the proud owner of a tiny milling machine, a set of R8 collets and 4F end mills up to 1/2"

Still need to dial it in and get myself a decent machinist vice, 3-2-1 blocks and some additional M12 hold-downs. But we're getting there. In this case 'there' is a more fully outfitted shop.

Getting a good start on #6. The mill is working out great- just experimenting with some 'feeds and speeds' on a non-critical spot to see what all we can do.

All over but the shouting on the bass- just waiting for some Gotoh's to show up on Monday.
-Really proud of this one. There were tons of new technical challenges to solve, and keeping the weight down was more work, just being so much larger.
