Old hat by now, but Les Pauls are signature instruments.

That being said, I very do not own a Radiohead Stratocaster. Would play the fuck out of one of those Malcolm Young jobs though

Sorry, I respectfully disagree. Early on, Les Paul helped write the book on solid body guitars (and multi-track recording, and guitar playing, and so on.). This is like saying Fenders are signature series instruments, even if LPs are technically a subset of Gibsons and the company isn't named after him. I mean, there's a lot of daylight between a Les Paul and, say, a Nuno Bettencourt series Washburn. The Les Paul is probably the second most popular guit of all time, behind the Strat. Its stature/ubiquity extends well beyond that of any typical signature series instrument.

And again, I don't think there's something suspect about signature series intstruments. I just haven't felt personally drawn to them, to date. At least to the point that I'd buy one.

I've mentioned it here before, but my problem with signature series instruments, specifically stringed ones, is that they're usually so damn recognizable. Crazy colors, ridiculous pickup configurations, a giant signature or a specific symbol on the headstock or pickguard. Regardless of how useful they are, they just scream, "yeah, I spent a lot of money and I'm really into this person."

Signature snare drum, who cares? Hard to tell what it is from the crowd.

I mean, I really want one of those Al Cisneros signature Rick 4003s, but there's no way I would play it on stage with those green fretboard inlays and his signature on the pickguard. It's super dorky. The pickup configuration is cool though, and it's got a much nicer tailpiece on it than the stock 4003s do.

My buddy has a Geddy Lee Jazz Bass, I believe the upgraded bridge and the signature on the back of the headstock are the only tells

Side note to the thread but dude (Jack White) went above and beyond with some charity stuff in my neighborhood last weekend. When most artists would have used the days for a tour break he raised over 15k, then personally donated that much on top of that. Plus it was funny seeing his road crew squeeze gear into teeny rooms.

And fuck it, his sig Tele thing is kinda cool in a freakish hillbilly way. (all of the acoustasonic guitars can fuck off though)

I'd be a little pissed if that were my guitar I paid 3k for. Then again "Bigsby"s were not really made for dive bombs.

That was also the prototype, so I'm going to assume it's already been beat to hell and back.

I still think that signature amp is pretty cool, even though I have ZERO use for it.
