Surfrider wrote:I am massively interested in ANY versions of the song 'Delia' or 'Delia Was a Gambling Gal' any of you lot have. I was turned on to this song by a version Pajo played at a Papa M gig years ago, and i am always on the hunt for more versions, be they better or worse. My favourite one i have heard so far would be by the afore-mentioned Blind Willie McTell (which is what reminded and promted me to write this post).

Ah, me too. Pajo's performance was stunning. This song, so sad. "All the friends I've ever had are gone".

I have a similar thing with John Henry. I have many versions, but none compete with Mississippi John Hurt's Spike Driver Blues. Fred McDowell's comes close though. And Leadbelly with Guthrie is quite uo there.

Minotaur029 wrote:This is good stuff...you can constantly hear Gould humming along like some great douchebag for a lot of these Bach recordings. He's also criticized for not really playing what's on the page (or something).

There's a terrific quote in an interview where he explains this. He basically says he isn't particularly fond of the piano, it's just that he wound up being very good at. He basically says that the humming is his way of producing the music he hears in his head, and that while he's very adept at the piano, it doesn't fulfil his need for self-expression.

Genius.

Ever seen Thirty Two Short Films About Glen Gould? It's been ages, fucking ages, since I've seen it but I recall it being compulsively watchable. All these little vinettes about him and his music and general approach to life. The guy who plays him in the film does a good job of making Gould seem at turns pompous and intriguing.

There's a interesting scene wherein he's in a diner on saturday morning somewhere out in the country, eaves dropping on multiple conversations, and he gets the idea for the Idea of North.

I wouldn't mind one bit seeing this film again. Might be good still.

Left this on the shared gmail account once but nobody seemed to notice or care.

So here, once again, is The Montclairs' '70s funk classic "Hung Up On Your Love".

You are welcome.

Hey: To be sure, I just downloaded this myself and it seems to be working. Send me a PM if the problem persists and we'll figure something out.

Skronk wrote:Anyone have Willard's first release?. I believe it was an e.p. in the late 80's. I have Steel Mill, but I can't find the e.p. anywhere. It would be much appreciated.

I don't own it, but I believe the entire thing is on this myspace page:
http://www.myspace.com/willardseattle

So you can give it a listen or, if you have Audacity, record it.
