I can't say! They definitely keep a tight lid on their political opinions. Which is probably necessary if you're gonna have a music business in New Hampshire.penningtron wrote: Thu Jul 25, 2024 11:05 am
For drum stuff, I and I think FM twelvepoint have recommended Drum Center of Portsmouth before. Seems like a decent non-Trumpian* or anti-union business from what I can tell, and even to the midwest their stuff ships out reasonably fast.
*I would settle for apolitical.

2102Coincidentally your question pops up the same day the guitarist in High Priors used my Bassman at practice!four_oclocker_2.2 wrote: Wed Jul 24, 2024 1:59 pm Fender Bassman amplifiers (heads, not combos.)
What's the deal? Seems like folks like these, I've never used one, but I'm curious. Anyone have a good rundown (or resource) on the difference between the different models/variations?
Mine is the AA864 circuit from November '64. Normal channel has always sounded amazing, stays pretty clean until the volume is past 5, doesn't really get near Marshall territory until 8 and it's LOUD by then. I never liked the Bass channel so when I had it rebuilt by a dude I found via the Gear Page(!) in 2015, he turned it into something more like a JTM45, though I don't think it sounds as good as the actual JTM45 I own. Even prior to the rebuild, it always seemed like it was the loudest and cleanest Bassman of the three that we had kicking around in Police Teeth during the Grunke-era. James had a drip-edge silver panel that sounded good, and sounded even better when Ben Adrian did a mod to it so that I believe the power section was more AA864 like and the pre was AB165. Still didn't sound as loud as mine. I also remember that mine seems louder/cleaner than the blonde Bassman that's been living at Electrical for a while.
I also LOVE the Normal channel on bass. I wanted to use that blonde one at EA for the Maple Stave record but it didn't really cut it and didn't seem as loud as mine (though obvs didn't have them side by side). I did use it (pre-rebuild) on the French Goodbye record with a P-Bass and a Mesa 1x15 and it's still one of my favorite bass sounds I've ever gotten on a record.
I've posted this before but if amp rebuilding is your ASMR here's the one the dude made when he worked on mine:

2103That silverface ended up with me! I kept it for a while, had basic service (I think I broke it) and then had the normal channel modded for a Marshall sound at the same time and then sold it to one of former fm major’s friends in Houston.tallchris wrote: Thu Jul 25, 2024 3:01 pm James had a drip-edge silver panel that sounded good, and sounded even better when Ben Adrian did a mod to it so that I believe the power section was more AA864 like and the pre was AB165. That amp was cool. I’ve probably posted this 1000 times by now but was looking for a blonde Bassman in 2020 and ended up with a croc Selmer TNB. I have to use a UK to US voltage convertor with it but that amp sounds so great - sounds just as good wound up as at house volume. The way I understand it is it’s similar to the way Jim Marshall english’d a tweed Bassman, except Selmer took a blonde Bassman and took it from there.
Mine has an extra preamp tube and a tube rectfiier.

2104In a combo you know the tiny cable that goes from the ohm inputs to the speaker terminals that's like barely a foot long?
I want to extend it so I can run it through an attenuator and I already have speaker cables - I assume an adapter like this would do just fine?:
As in, adapters don't have the same qualifications as instrument vs speaker cables?

Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere
2105It’s likely built with connections sufficient for speaker power (as in looks like a sleeve shaft and the tips are probably a plate that touches both. Or the tips touch, whatever you want to imagine to get your cornflakes crispy)andyman wrote: Wed Jul 31, 2024 5:39 am In a combo you know the tiny cable that goes from the ohm inputs to the speaker terminals that's like barely a foot long?

But for a variety of reasons that would cause it to become disconnected I would avoid that and just make a longer cable

2106[pedantic]from the power amp output to the speaker terminals[/pedantic]
How much power are we talkin' here? The biggest thing to be concerned about is whether this adapter can handle the current. If this is a 50 W amp with an 8 ohm load, that's about sqrt(50/8) = 2.5 A. That's probably fine. Honestly, I have no idea how these adapters are constructed internally. I don't know if there's a couple of tiny wires inside between the jacks, or if they're directly connected with stamped metal or what.
Technically, you don't need a TRS adapter, just a TS, but the TRS will work in this situation.

2107Of course Nate - sorry, was heading out the door when I wrote it.Nate Dort wrote: Wed Jul 31, 2024 7:07 am[pedantic]from the power amp output to the speaker terminals[/pedantic]

It's just a 20W 8 Ohm load.
A longer cable would of course do too but looking around online, solutions to this (common!) problem are few and expensive.TylerDeadPine wrote: Wed Jul 31, 2024 6:48 am But for a variety of reasons that would cause it to become disconnected I would avoid that and just make a longer cable
Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere
2108On a separate note I dropped a guitar in to a tech yesterday - who's typically booked back to back - for a setup which costs £80. Pretty normal price.
We established there that it also needs a new toggle switch, and last night I get a prelim invoice with the switch down for £12, a new jack down for £6 and then 'wiring' as £30(!).
Late this afternoon I email him asking if he'll just do the setup and sell me the components to wire up myself, but he replied he'd already installed the components. I ask if the guitar is done and he's like "The body's done - just the neck and final setup to go".
I just got ripped off, right?

Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere
2109By the time you open up the guitar, remove the old parts, and replace them, that's about 30 minutes of work. Plus all of the other sundry costs (wire, solder, cleaning supplies. 30 seems fair.
