For me it comes down to not tying my ongoing interests to the whims of a company. I literally own the license to listen to music and the delivery method. Otherwise I own only the license. At the end of the day I also just enjoy being off a screen whenever possible.

I'm the same - own the actual thing unless it's only available in digital, or seems like a less serious purchase. The original post was meant as more of a general question of why bother? Music being just one area.
