My dad had nothing else to say on the matter, and I felt unable to continue the conversation.

Conversation #3: Me with my girlfriend

[The following took place at a supermarket checkout]

Me: So, what would you do if there were snakes loose on your plane?
Girlfriend: (pause) Stay calm.
Me: Okay, but what steps would you take to actually deal with them?
GF: (long pause) I'd try and poke them with something.
Me: Like what?
GF: Um...(very long pause)...somebody's walking stick, or something.
Me: Well, what if there were loads of them?
GF: I dunno. I think the main thing would be to stay calm.
Me: Would you feel better if someone like Sam Jackson was on the plane with you?
GF: (very long pause) Maybe.


At this point it was our turn at the till, and so ended the conversation.

Conversation #4: Me with my Italian wife

Me: So, what would you do if there were snakes loose on your plane?

Wife: Whata the fuck are you tallking about? Go anda get some vino from the kitchen.
