Any other ideas?

The only thing that comes to mind is that it'd be good to do these samples with a totally bog standard bass, basic J or P style for example, so that the character of the instrument is likely to be quite familiar to most people.

Also, I'd like to hear what it can do in the way of a super honky middle heavy tone, a la Bernard Paganotti, but I like stupid bass sounds so you can probably ignore me...
Don't shun it. Fun it.

I second the advice not to put the drums on. Drums help the "groove" but they won't help understanding the sound of the device.

Maybe make a "fingers" sound samples and "pick" sound?

But yeah, showing how the pedal works "regularly", like a DI. Showing how it sounds at one extreme - ala shellac. Showing how it sounds when, well a round tone. Just ilke you said.

Any way you would also consider posting some basic sample settings for the tones mentioned above? That was one thing I found very helpful with my Sansamp....the manual had the settings for various tones (SVT, Bassman, etc.), which you could then tweak from there to find your own personal sound.

I've gotten some nice tones from this pedal already. But nevertheless, sample settings would be great. Thanks!
