I remember a discussion on the quality of products produced in various countries. Mexico vs. Japan vs. Korea or something like that? If anyone wants to weigh in on this subject, I'm all ears.

MIA- usually decent, spotty quality control. also, overpriced as hell.

MIJ- very decent. right price too. even new from japanese importers. which includes a $130 shipping charge, still beats american. plus you can get models they don't sell here. ishibashi, i think was the name of one. usally signature models are MIJ's.

MIM- mostly shit. some decent ones.

MIAnything else-shit. still, might find something nice. i wouldn't count on it to last too long before disintegrating. everything will have to be replaced except the body.

that about sums it up.

Westone Thunder 1. I bought it on the glowing recommendations of this board's very own Adam CR and it's a flipping treat. I did a silly, silly thing to it on its first use at a gig and stuffed it in a bin, knocking off one of the tone pots. Idiotic, but fun.

Ha. My uncle had one of those on his home stereo. Me and my cousins used to plug a mic in to the stereo when we were kids and prank call people while talking through it.

Why the hell would anyone wanna have a "reverb unit" on a home stereo, I wonder?

Probably sounds pretty cool through your guitar amp.

After purchasing it for $3 in a thrift store, simply because of the hypnotic effect it had on the green "level meter" when you turned the dial, I also spent many hours trying to figure out it's applications in regards to my home stereo. I figured it was made right about the time Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" came out, and was marketed towards those people who wanted their albums to be "a little more cosmic" - I imagine Undisputed Truth's cover of Neil Young's "Down by The River" would sound amazing through this thing and a haze of thai stick smog or something...

However, instead I made a footswitch for it and hooked it up to my amp. The Twin Reverb already (duh) has plenty of reverb, but the reverb that comes from the Pioneer unit is so weird and unnatural, that it has other interesting applications.

Plus, when putting it on top of my amp at shows, the green level meter had a rather hypnotic effect on anyone in the front row of the audience.

Always a lot of fun to have some gearhead come up to me with a "what the hell is that thing?" afterwards...

...would pay good money to hear some of your reverb laden prank calls.

I had these bogus fantasies about how much cash this would be worth now, then I looked it up on ebay and crapped my pants like an old man at how cheap it was.

stopped playing seriously in the 90s, have a bunch of cassette recordings and 1 4 song demo recorded on a 16 track in a studio, cost us $50 back in the day and took 24 hours straight to get 1 bass, 1 guitar, 1 drum machine and some pizza .

I suck so bad that I can't even play the "solos" I laid down in 94 w/ some cheesey alt tuning. I believe the engineer referred to them as "noodling" although he liked a few of our songs.

He went on to asst. record on the Smackmelon album, dunno what they did to that album because the 7" they put out were world breakingly good, but the exact same songs on the album were meh.

if you can find the 7" version of space shot, DO IT NOW! Avoid the album version. Never knew what happened to smackmelon, but the first album they did shocked me at how inferiour it was to their 7" and live shows

The video makes them seem very boring, but still a great song it just lacks the punch and the bang of the original recording, I cant wrap my head around it, Its just subdued

BTW he plays a sweet Jazzmaster? love those guitars, were always too expensive for me back then

My 'everyday' guitar is a black late 70's Musicmaster. Lovely, simple but the bridge tears the shit out of my hand when I play percussive palm muting and sharp stops as the strings don’t go through the body and the ball end of the strings are like little fuckin barb wires.

My 'other' guitar is a Travis Bean artist. I don't really gig this, but record with it whenever I get the chance.

Blah

Just recently got myself a Gordon Smith SG2, it's so beautifully made I fell in love the moment I saw it...currently thinking of replacing the bridge Pickup with a Super Distortion as it's a bit weedy at the moment...What do you think?
