Spent yesterday driving around West Texas, listening to Lungfish and Bone & Bell. Wide awake at 4:00am in a little hacienda-style motel, listening to coyotes and the air-conditioner click on and off. Gonna get out of bed in a few hours, eat migas, drink coffee, and go for a dip in Balmorhea.

I just came outside with my 19-1/2 year old cat, who is suffering from cancer in his jaw. It's been a special treat for him to come outside and sit under my chair while I work from my laptop.

Neighbor just fired up a lawnmower.

It hasn't rained here in about 7 weeks. Even my crabgrass is dormant.

My dog, Mr. Bookman, is 14 years old. It's increasingly difficult for him to get up from lying down as the muscles in his back legs are weak. Sometimes he leaves little shits on the ground where he is lying down. I wonder if he tries so hard to get up that he shits himself, so to speak. Luckily they are cute lil shits and easy to clean up after.

This sounds familiar as the elderly neighbor's son is a real life fuckin' Hank Hill. Mows the grass every 5-6 days, no matter how short and brown it is. And at random times, so I can't plan around it.

I hope all my dandelions (which the bees love) piss him off.

Rained like hell here last night. Tornados came through about 5 miles south of me.

New Jersey, WTF?

I was supposed to go stay with a friend tonight and see my first show back in Brooklyn. It was 2 of my favorite bands, also just going and hanging out with a friend was very built up in my head - I've missed a lot of grown up socialization over the last year and a half. My wife wasn't comfortable with me going with latest news on Delta variant (mainly 'cause our kids aren't old enough to be vaccinated yet) and I couldn't really disagree.

It's starting to feel like this is never going to end (again) and I'm so fucking tired of it. So sad right now.

My kids are 11 and 8, and we just dropped them off at a 2 week sleepover camp today. I got laid off a month ago and have been driving Uber/ Lyft to help stretch savings while I figure out whether I want to get another real job where the man has control over it all or just semi-loaf and live a more frugal life.

Every camper had to show proof of a negative test, they’re basically outdoors for everything, including sleeping in what amounts to a screened in, non-air conditioned cabin (in S. Central Tx, y’all.) so I’m sure they’re safe, but goddamnit, a month ago things were really looking like they were improving overall.

I try not to get too infuriated about it, but fuck man. This is such an avoidable problem. 99% of people here in America beg for better healthcare, and when the government hands it out for free, ~45% of people won’t take it. The intellectual incongruity is just astounding to me.

But yeah, I feel ya.
