They sound fucking amazing but I'm in Europemdc wrote: Thu Mar 28, 2024 1:51 pm Weber Grey Wolf might do it for you?
I have one in a 2x12 with a V30 and it's a nice pairing, but the weber is definitely handling more of the low end.

222oh totally, and by no means do I mean anyone on the PRF. Anyone here has good taste and often puts things in context or makes comments with an open mind as to the variety of music that may be created.andyman wrote: Thu Mar 28, 2024 1:27 pmWhile no doubt true to some extent, the V30 I had was the most lifeless, rigid thing I've ever heard. I'm sure they sound great at volume but I didn't want to play guitar when that was in the cab.TylerDeadPine wrote: Thu Mar 28, 2024 1:19 pm You'll get one person saying you need to crank a speaker to make it sound good, and others saying they can hear speaker distortion and hate it.

The prophet X is WILD. I was able to play one for about 5 minutes at Guitar center before stopping myself and walking away.
Middle ground, I'm sure Nord has something because I see people using red things live all the time, but it's always by bands that are too safe/clean so I have a real bias against those boards.
Otherwise likely looking at workstations in the $1k-$1.5k range from the usual suspects, I think the Roland Fantom is supposed to be good.
But what I'm likely going to get for similar purposes when I see one used: https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/korg-modwave. There's a sample builder that looks decent, and the korg Modwave/Wavestate sound totally great, while having all the modern bells and whistles.
Only I really hate the tiny Korg keyboards, so likely run it from our prophet keyboard and my synth player will hate me for the extra setup but will love that I got pretty well the exact ESQ-1 pads from our first album (I hope) into it.
but if you're just hitting a couple keys now and then that should be plenty and you can still make blips and bloops
Edit: apparently on the Modwsve the samples go through the processing, on the Wavestate they don’t.. or something

224The prophet X was discontinued today
Also, take my suggestions with the Korg wavestate/modwave with the caveate that they may process the samples in a way you don't want, or in a very cool want that you might not know you want

225I was looking around for an affordable standalone kybd that I could load samples into a while ago and it was a strangely hard thing to find. One thing that came up was the discontinued Korg Microsampler: https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/korg-microsampler
They turn up for around $400 used, might do the job for you?

226That's weird. I wonder what's up with that.
Edit: Just read their press release that it was due to a scarcity of an essential material/component. Or that's a cover for a business transition but I'll take it on face value.

227Had luck this past week with a very old Akai S20.mdc wrote: Sat Mar 30, 2024 7:36 am I was looking around for an affordable standalone kybd that I could load samples into a while ago and it was a strangely hard thing to find. 228For anyone who's curious, I ended up going with a G12-65. First impressions are that it's much better and much, much less fizzy than the greenback in a 1x12 setup. The always entertaining Johan Segeborn agrees and he's a greenback cheerleader:andyman wrote: Thu Mar 28, 2024 6:52 am I have a sneaking suspicion that this is a dumb question, but: a 12" Speaker that does sludge at low volumes
I picked up a Laney AOR 30 and it sounds AMAZING through my mate's 2x12 bass speakers. Lots of chunky, articulate low end when you turn the gain up.
Through my 1x12 G12m it sounds... like crap. Really fizzy with no texture.
I think it's just the nature of the speaker and the amount of gain + low end coming from the amp.
I got the greenback as it's better at low volumes (I play at home through an attenuator); the V30 that came in the cab was absolutely dire turned down - stiff and brittle.
I'm considering a G12K-100. It seems great (and cheap!) but I've seen people say they really need to be turned up to sound good.
Another option is the G12H30, but I'm not sure it's different enough to the greenback.
Then there are the Delta 12A, EM12....
Efficiency/loudness is a factor since I'm playing at home.
It's a lot darker and less sparkly too, but it's not broken in yet so time will tell.
For the AOR's serious low-end, I'm not sure it's the perfect match, but it's certainly a big improvement.

229...good all-rounder LDC for acoustic guitars / small amps / vocals / found-sounds. I record at home; max SPL is less important to me than good rejection zones and low self-noise. Have been considering the jZ Black Hole whenever they have their next half-off sale, or a Shure KSM44A. Pad would be nice but isn't a must-have; multipattern I care less about provided the rejection is good.
