Sometimes a space is tight and backing in the easiest way to get that tight arc required. Some people do this all the time. The corollary to this is making a point of being able to exit one's parking spot by driving straight out, i.e., without having to back up.I do not understand this peeve. I back into spaces all the time, and I've had at least 2 different friends give me crap for it. For me, it's a safety factor: by backing into the space, you have almost no risk of accidentally backing into someone or something when you leave. But it seems like half the time I pull in forwards, I end up with a pedestrian hanging out in my blind spot or something on the way out. I just find it way easier and safer to back in first.enframed wrote:I could be wrong, but it's one of those things that I think says a lot about a personality.I would be curious to hear more about this.

I think it may originally have been intended as ironic understatement. "I could, technically, care less", indicating that you're only a hair's breadth above total apathy. That's the only way I can make sense of it, at least.Of course, once a phrase becomes established then people just start using it reflexively. Half the shit people say is just a casual assemblage of stock phrases.

"I could care less."God, I hate that expression, and all who use it. To start with, it's wrong. People say it in order to say that they don't care about something. But if they didn't care, then they COULDN'T care less. If they could care less about something, then they actually care about it. Otherwise, they couldn't care less. Also, people who say it are trying to assert some superiority over the thing, that they're so above it that they couldn't care less about it. Except they are saying that they COULD care less. Which fills me with rage.

The word "couple" to refer to a pair without following it with an "of".ie. "I went to the store and bought a couple shirts"Instead of the correct: "I went to the store and bought a couple of shirts"It's most annoying when you see it in writing, I can excuse it in day to day speech.

When someone you live with answers a cell (or cordless) phone in the living room while you are watching TV and they remain next to you for the entirety of their long and loud conversation. "You aren't tethered to anything. GET THE FUCK OUT!"

Get a life.I know this guy who takes pride in how logical he is--he's a hardcore atheist and he gets irrationally angry at people saying stuff like "pray for [whatever]" or "god bless"--but he totally takes reality TV at face value. He called me a "conspiracy theorist" because I said Pawn Stars is scripted and has nothing to do with reality.
