There are a lot of different ways to win with the guitar amp/overhead roles you mentioned. Voices are more tricky. Sometimes a kick-ass mic sounds disappointing on one's voice, but rules on another. That's the biggest leap of faith. The traditional vintage 87 sound might be a little darker than some of the other useful workhorses mentioned. Also a little less bass too than some.brephophagist wrote: Sat Jul 27, 2024 7:31 pm Thanks all.
I was also half-eyeing the Dachmann Audio clone of the U87. I’m not sure the flattery of the U87 sound is something I actually want, though. (Not rhetorical dismissal there - I honestly don’t know.)losthighway wrote: Sat Jul 27, 2024 4:59 pm Also both Serrano and Beesneez are making U87 clones that people are raving about.

242I'm looking for a nice clean way to store microphones. I wan't to toss all the silly overbuilt aluminum cases and weird plastic boxes and stupid little zipper bags that come with mics and take up way too much room. Something with drawers and everything has it's own little home but the only thing I'm finding are old card catalog apothecary cases that the instagram moms love so much and the prices are insane. Where do you store your mics? I have a lot.

243The drawers called "lingerie chests" typically have lots of shallow drawers that would be good for mics. I'm considering making something along those lines for my mics and pedals and delicate undergarments, etc.Kniferide wrote: Mon Aug 26, 2024 11:33 am I'm looking for a nice clean way to store microphones. 245That would probably work pretty good. I'd like to find something with a couple of deeper drawers for larger mics and a few other floating rando stuff. I could probably modify it. Price is about what I'm willing to pay. Thanks.twelvepoint wrote: Mon Aug 26, 2024 1:26 pmThe drawers called "lingerie chests" typically have lots of shallow drawers that would be good for mics. 246The Ikea Alex flat files are pretty cheap if you don't have luck finding something else.

247In case it wasn’t obvious, I don’t know anything about the quality of that particular cabinet or the reputation of the seller. I just thought the layout looked appropriate.Kniferide wrote: Mon Aug 26, 2024 2:26 pmThat would probably work pretty good. If I had more floor space I’d probably get that or similar, but my area is super tight and any storage has to be custom made.

248A hand truck that handles about 150-200 and folds up. I suddenly have a long walk to and from the car for loadout.
A pedal maker that does a Rat and an HM-2 in the same enclosure. It seems like a couple people do an hm-2 eq with a Rat chipset. Not quite what I want.

249Somebody here recommended this to me:GuyLaCroix wrote: A hand truck that handles about 150-200 and folds up. I suddenly have a long walk to and from the car for loadout.
Flatform Truck
It's great and I've hauled ridiculously large towers of LP boxes on this thing.
I should say: The footprint is pretty small, so if you need to haul very large items (Ampeg 8x10 Fridge etc) it might not be adequate.
But the thing is well-made and sturdy, I've hauled a ton of crap with this thing. It folds up flat/small.
Wheels are not huge but also not tiny, so as long as terrain is pretty smooth and even, you're OK.
Re: Recommend me a...
250Thanks, but that's unfortunately not going to do it. Portland is a series of hills, and the terrain can be unpleasant. Our pathway is uneven cobblestone.
