I'm listening to all the songs on John Schooley's website. I was having a drink at my favourite bar last night, he came on with his one-man band and I felt ambushed: he played maybe one and half kinds of song (shitkicker blues, I guess) and I thought him one of the best acts that I've seen in recent years. At times, I could swear that his great, fat guitar wash reminded me of Santiago Durango's guitar sound on some Big Black bootlegs. He was a really brilliant surprise from Austin, Texas.

EDIT: One of the Youtube videos on that page has him accompanying R.L. Burnside in 1998. The contrast between the two is really sweet: Burnside relaxed, amused, just there; Schooley young, nervous as hell.

Whitehouse, 'Cream of the Second Coming' 2xLP. Getting ready for work...

Considering the context, 'Shitfun' is a remarkably apt track.

I might even have that record. It's been awhile since I raided the comedy section of the archives.

It's easier to listen to cd's now, I'm posting on eBay. My golfers' elbow is acting up.
