Re: Little Details from Your Day

After our dance class, my wife headed home and I met some friends at the Green Mill to watch the big band. Toward the end of their first set, they played “That’s Life” even though David Lee Roth already recorded the definitive version of it on 1986’s Eat ‘Em and Smile!

(Also, the original came out in the 1960s and not before WWII, but it was still cool.)

Someone should let them know that you’re not allowed to play a cover once David Lee Roth has done it. “Pretty Woman,” “Happy Trails,” “Just a Gigolo”—not in your repertoire.

"Let's make it a rule."
Yes!
Fuck, does that include "You Really Got Me"?

Sort of think an exception is needed there.

I mean, we make an exception for that, and before you know it, the cruise ship band is sneaking “California Girls” into the set between “Wonderwall” and “The Pina Colada Song.”

(In truth, the performance last night was kinda joyous. I’ve only gone to the Thursday Green Mill performance a couple times, but I always leave feeling just wonderful.)
