But I was thinking specifically of getting samples and such. Do you just snatch them off random tracks? (that's what I'm thinking)
Yeah, I ripped samples out of other modules. You can also find lots of samples here: https://freewavesamples.com -- there's lots of synths and drum machine samples here. MPT has good sample editing so you can also just start ripping stuff yourself and coming up with fun/weird stuff

Polvo - Siberia (2013)
Been listening to this band for twenty something years and this is the one I come back to the most. Maybe my favorite?
I know is like a simpler, rockier, less challenging version of themselves... but I just love it.

Magnum - Chase the Dragon (1982)
Shiny, melodic 80s hard rock but with a distinct glam/powerpop sensibility. They seem to slide between these camps and I def prefer when they draw closer to the latter.
Sometimes it sounds like Europe but there are moments here for sure.

Soul Patrol - Stay on the Ground (1988)
Think I found this when poking around in Swedish postpunk. A little gothy, a little shoegazey, a little Stooges-rocky.

Enya - Shepherd Moons (1991)
Once again it's like intermission music you might hear in-between programs on tv, plus one great pop song ("Caribbean Blue"). I'm kind of into the former, but there are other examples I would rather choose over this one.
"Ebudae" reminds me of Sámi music, which also has a tendency toward the new agey on record (see Mari Boine).

^ the bass in "Caribbean Blue" in the way it bounces calls to mind this classic tune from Age of Wonders (1999), credits Michiel van den Bos.
