it'd be pretty dope to get a schematic of the innards & begin the clone wars. I'd certainly rather the good Dr got my money vs anyone else.llllllllllllllllllll wrote: Wed Jun 21, 2023 8:58 am I haven’t read the manual or anything, but I played it a bunch last night with an EGC guitar with flatwounds and a 15 watt 50s Gibson.
To me, it’s closest in feel to a Lovetone Ringstinger I had for a while before I had to sell when prices got too high. There’s no ring mod on the Shields Blender obv, but it’s a very interactive pedal that does all sorts of crazy shit, and the fuzz is such that it feels like you can tune it with the tone knob. It’s not subtle, and in some ways the pedal obliterates the relationship between the guitar and the amp. Dialing in clean sounds is cool, but you have to goose the volume when you do that to make it sound good. The sag control kind of makes the pedal, but I couldn’t imagine any one section of this pedal without the others. The expansion switch kind of goes into a rhythm/lead sort of change, but the eq differences can be a little extreme.
If I have one complaint, it’s that I wish the fuzz had a wider range down as you’re kind of starting on 10. If I had two complaints, the octave down switch really needs a master volume, but I understand why its not there - it’s the You Made Me Realise switch.
All the gold rush stuff surrounding it seems to happen any time Kevin Shields has done anything post-2000s, so I’m not really going to get into it in this post. It’s a very cool pedal.

700 pedals, 100 of which have a flash drive. From what I've read, it's the same "music" on each drive (though the idea of Shields doing 100 different mini-pieces a la "Eno making the Windows startup sound" sounds wonderful)Nate Dort wrote: Wed Jun 21, 2023 10:17 am
The photo has a numbering of 21/100, but it's my understanding that they made 700 of these things.
So, is it that the song on the flash drive is #21 out of 100 hidden songs, or that only 100 of these 700 pedals have the flash drive in there?
Also, I like that it's only one screw to take the back off and replace the battery.
This board is certainly more MBV friendly now than it was 10+ years ago.llllllllllllllllllll wrote: Wed Jun 21, 2023 8:58 am All the gold rush stuff surrounding it seems to happen any time Kevin Shields has done anything post-2000s, so I’m not really going to get into it in this post.
Went ahead and bought a slightly used Super Vintage pedal, as I've got some more flyout stuff this year and as much as I love the Meatsmoke preamp pedal, it's freakin' huge, like I think it's actually bigger and heavier than the Quilter Bass Block. Tempted to buy the '64 Bassman one if I come across a used one at some point, but this will do for now I'd bet.tallchris wrote: Fri Jun 16, 2023 6:55 pmeephus wrote: Fri Jun 16, 2023 4:32 pm I've gotten two of the Origin Effects all-analog preamp pedals recently.
I got the Super Vintage fake SVT to run into this little solid state bass head that I have, and I think it sounds pretty swell. It captures both the upper-end "ting" and the midrange grunt of the Ampeg tone stack, which are the first two things to go away when I try to use a SS amplifier.
It's good enough that I decided to get the Deluxe 61 and try it on guitar/baritone. It's also quite good--imbues things with the black panel Fender sound and crucially does about as good a job on the Fender tremolo as you could expect.
Their pedals are not cheap, but I like what I've heard from them so far.
Oh dang, that Black Panel one sounds really good based on the YouTube demos.
That was my major gripe also. Kinda tempted to pick up one of the Sushi Box clones that's in a more manageable form factor.tallchris wrote: Wed Jun 21, 2023 1:31 pm as much as I love the Meatsmoke preamp pedal, it's freakin' huge, like I think it's actually bigger and heavier than the Quilter Bass Block.
Yeah I would for sure send it to Dr Balls for a couple weeks if he’s down and free. Once the newness wears off!Garth wrote: Wed Jun 21, 2023 10:01 am it'd be pretty dope to get a schematic of the innards & begin the clone wars. I'd certainly rather the good Dr got my money vs anyone else.
