... so you don't actually like baseball?
At this point, the red sox are the only team I dislike. I used to hate the braves, but they haven't been very good in a while. I always liked the mets from 1986. The marlins drive me crazy, but they keep turning over their roster, so it's hard to hold any kind of grudge.
The yankees...well if it was during the late 90s, yeah they took a lot of the fun out of watching baseball. recently, they seem to be struggling a bit, so as long as they don't win again for 10 years, I'll be okay with them. I just keep envisioning rudy giuliani in his stupid yankees hat in october. blech...
the mets after last year's collapse, you kind of got to root for them. if the phillies don't make it, I guess I could root for them. washington too. fuck florida.

Shit fuck damn. The Tigers had this one-pitch Farnsworth once already. Crazy stupid to trade the franchise for him.

Although I am all for it, my best friend, a New Englander, is mortified that Manny might be getting traded. This will do a good deal to solidify the Rays in the playoffs. Here's hoping they are finally over his ego and toss him.

Will Carroll wrote:The Commissioner’s Office has been informed of a deal involving the Pirates, Red Sox, and Marlins. The Commissioner has to sign off on any deal involving cash considerations of more than a million dollars, and there was clearly going to be cash involved in any deal involving these teams. There’s also some formality about Manny Ramirez waiving his 10-and-5 rights, and no-trade clause, and I’ll admit not understanding the technicalities.
So here’s what Pee Wee Herman would call the “big but”: the teams, I am told, have not agreed on the specific prospects to be included in the deal. It’s expected that in addition to the principals, the Red Sox would get John Grabow and give up two prospects, while the Marlins would get one prospect and give up two. There’s still a lot of haggling but my scribbling notes make it look like the structure of the deal is:
Marlins get Manny Ramirez, one prospect (Red Sox), and cash (likely covering Ramirez’s remaining salary)
Pirates get Jeremy Hermida and three prospects (two Marlins, one Red Sox)
Red Sox get Jason Bay and John Grabow
There is still potential for this to fall apart over the prospects, but things appear closer now than ever before.
This would be so great. So great. Handing cigars out in the street great.

Griffey has been traded to the White Sox:

He needs to approve the trade.

I'm not a fan of the trade because I'd rather have some actual prospects but I won't miss Pudge one bit. Hasn't had a big hit all year. Besides, Farnsworth did just fine in his first stint with the Tigers. He seems to do worse in cities with a night life. In Detroit (or the burbs, where he will live), you have to go looking for some boozy trouble. In Chicago and NY, the trouble finds you.

Sources are now showing its approved. Some state that the Sox will end up paying him about $8 million. Figured Brian Anderson would have been the bait, but it looks like its Danny Richar and Nick Masset. Now if Kenny can just pull the trigger on Huston Street us Sox fans would feel a little better about our recently declining bullpen.
Its exciting to consider the idea of Ken Griffey, Jr. in a Sox jersey, but was this the hole we needed to fill? Not that it was readily available, but a leadoff hitter would have been nice if you are planning to make Konerko the odd man out anyway. Griffey has always had a decent OBP, so perhaps its the right move after all. I'm a little nervous about the idea of him playing center field, however.
