Yeah, I think if you do a layer of gorilla or flooring tape between the wood and the fuzzy velcro it'll be on there forever. Not sure the primer will make a difference one way or the other, but you never know?

Derail, sorry: What's your little set up here? Curious for related projects.

Hi. The group I play in Boston Typewriter Orchestra, and we do music and performances using typewriters as main instruments. Traditionally we’ve coaxed out different voices in the machines through mechanical means but we’re branching out a bit to include live sampling and other electronics.

That said, the setup I use has a couple contact mics in spots that try to get “treble-y” or “bassy” sounds. I find that the preamp>gate>EQ helps to get cleaner sounds which can then be manipulated a little further.

Really in our early stages with this, but that signal chain really beefs up the contact mic sound, with is a little weak on its own. Hope that helps! There’s a pic on our IG page from a couple weeks ago with that setup.

I’ve read 500k at other, more hellish corners of the internet but I want to know what people have tried here. 1 meg normal Jag option but not sure about that.
Did just this - went with 1meg and 0.047uF - do you have any alligator clips? real easy to clip in different tone caps in parallel to try values if you have a few around

Yes! I recall this project. Very cool. What are you using for the preamp & EQ?

I keep putting off this project where I plan to take a board with some legs on it (like a diy computer monitor stand), wire it up with some contact mics, and mount a little preamp under the board. Then the idea is to figure out a mounting system (I have a few ideas) where I can swap out different "modules." Each module could be whatever little contact mic instrument idea, springs mounted to a wood block or whatever, and just simply mounted to the platform temporarily and swap it out with others as desired. That way you don't have to wire up every little device. You can also just sit something big and noisy on it like a typewriter and have that amplified. I just need to clear a workspace in the shop.
