I think about deleting my FB from time to time, but I don't want to lose contact with some friends. I guess I can still contact them thru Messenger?
The big thing that I’d realized in the year or two before actually deleted my account is that I *wasn’t* able to keep in touch with my friends and family on Facebook. The algorithms fucked all of that. I’d get gobs of ads (fine), loads of Facebook “recommendations” for commercial pages with a tangential relationship to things I like (not fine), and a metric fuckton of Reels (actively offensive). And the algorithm was almost perfectly calibrated to share my friends’ most boring posts repeatedly while burying everything interesting.zircona1 wrote: Mon Oct 06, 2025 8:26 am I think about deleting my FB from time to time, but I don't want to lose contact with some friends. A thing I've learned from making positive changes in life (whether that's getting rid of Meta accounts, quitting drinking, and/or prioritizing health goals) is that not everyone is gonna be down for the ride, and that's fine. If they refuse to engage outside of the nazi and AI slop algorithm, then fuck 'em they probably weren't great friends. I still talk to people either at real life events or thru text and Signal chats. There was life before all this crap and it's a big world out there.zircona1 wrote: Mon Oct 06, 2025 8:26 am I think about deleting my FB from time to time, but I don't want to lose contact with some friends.

oh yeah, I stay in touch with me peeps via wapp and email. It's fucking refreshing not being targeted by adds all the time.
Yeah hmmh, this constant need to be in touch with everyone and being available at the touch of someone's finger is not really healthy. These days I only have IG because I love to post stupid moments from my life, and pretty much nothing else. Fuck social media and fuck being present at all times. That can't be healthy as an evolutionary sidestep, not calling it a improvement.penningtron wrote: Mon Oct 06, 2025 9:53 amA thing I've learned from making positive changes in life (whether that's getting rid of Meta accounts, quitting drinking, and/or prioritizing health goals) is that not everyone is gonna be down for the ride, and that's fine.
