I think about deleting my FB from time to time, but I don't want to lose contact with some friends. I guess I can still contact them thru Messenger?

The big thing that I’d realized in the year or two before actually deleted my account is that I *wasn’t* able to keep in touch with my friends and family on Facebook. The algorithms fucked all of that. I’d get gobs of ads (fine), loads of Facebook “recommendations” for commercial pages with a tangential relationship to things I like (not fine), and a metric fuckton of Reels (actively offensive). And the algorithm was almost perfectly calibrated to share my friends’ most boring posts repeatedly while burying everything interesting.

If you want to or choose to do a little fairly disciplined Facebook "hit-it-and-quit-it", you can avoid all that on a laptop/PC on Firefox with the FB Purity add-on (Fluff Busting Purity, formerly known as Facebook Purity). The downside being that it will keep you on Facebook, possibly against your will or better judgement.

A thing I've learned from making positive changes in life (whether that's getting rid of Meta accounts, quitting drinking, and/or prioritizing health goals) is that not everyone is gonna be down for the ride, and that's fine. If they refuse to engage outside of the nazi and AI slop algorithm, then fuck 'em they probably weren't great friends. I still talk to people either at real life events or thru text and Signal chats. There was life before all this crap and it's a big world out there.

Yeah hmmh, this constant need to be in touch with everyone and being available at the touch of someone's finger is not really healthy. These days I only have IG because I love to post stupid moments from my life, and pretty much nothing else. Fuck social media and fuck being present at all times. That can't be healthy as an evolutionary sidestep, not calling it a improvement.

I talk shit with my band mates in a group wapp, talk with my daughter and a couple of friends there too. I don't really need fake BD congrats from people I never met IRL, or not my friends over FB. Also, dono't need it for my band. In times before FB thirty people showed up to our shows. That has not changed in FB times, still the same thirty assholes.

I’m working the entry booth to one of our county parks. A lady just drove up with no pants on. Just a bikini top and no bottom. We conducted a conversation as though it were perfectly normal.
