There's a lot of individual elements about this band that are crap - the terrible name and Billy Corgan's loathsome, self-pitying persona immediately come to mind. Having said that, when I saw them at the Melbourne Big Day Out in 1994 they rocked with such authority that for 45 minutes it totally slipped my mind how much there is to dislike about them.

The Smashing Pumpkins were a terrible group. Their guitars were overprocessed and compressed to the point that they produced this emasculated wash of sound that didn't rock at all. Billy Corgan's squealing voice and pretentious lyrics are unacceptable. While they came up with a few good melodies here and there, most of their songs were musically uninteresting.

Crap.

just got out adore again. that's a great album. the artwork is shit, but the music is really good!

Gish was a great album and it defined a certain part of my youth. But shit man, what the fuck happened? Billy Corgain had - still has - his head rammed so far up his ass, it makes me cringe to even listen to the stuff I like.

Never heard much but the singles. Can think of a lot of more worse things I hear on the radio than better. That alone doesn't stop it from being Crap... I'm pretty undecided.


....Oh fuck, just remembered you run into that girl years later in a completely different town. Your girlfriend (who ends up being older than her) asks how you know eachother. Jeez.

Oh yeah, that reminds me. I grew up in Lincoln Park, not far from Mr. Corgain. I had a girlfriend my Junior year in highschool who was so obsessed with Billy that she'd stand outside his house a couple days a week when he was living in Wrigleyville. Needless to say, we didn't stay together long.
