i find that Madison has an interesting (and equally boring) musical situation (relative to Tucson, that is).

all the shows i've been to since i've lived here have been genre shows - every band adheres to some very specific musical idea. it's a "hardcore show" it's a "psychobilly show" it's a "metal show." it's disgusting how pigeonholing the whole thing is. the most interesting show i saw was in the basement of some drug-house where everyone (audience and bands) were just totally fucked-out and hopped-up on chemicals of one sort or another, and everything was really disgustingly dirty and all the equipment was fucked up, etc.

but beyond that one show, i haven't had very good luck. i'd welcome any suggestions (especially as my new band will probably be ready to book shows this spring, and we certainly won't be a genre-band) as far as venues and bands go.

i bring this up because i thought, upon watching the Chicago Burn to Shine, "man, would it be cool to somehow help out if they did one of these in Madison," but then i remembered all the disappointing shows i've been to, and my inability to find anything interesting. i'm sure it's there, i just haven't looked in the right place yet.
if i got lasik surgery on one eye, i could wear a monacle.

I know this sounds like i'm kissing arse, but i think it's mint. It's like math pop rock. A fine piece of drumming as well.
