He is tagged, and the guy who re-collared him rang up an hour ago fucking FURIOUS (we'd stuck yet another collar on him with our number on it). He was all "Who are you? Wheres my collar? That cat is stray, he's lived with us for weeks...I was going to have him chipped next week!"

He gave a false address and the cat is still (as far as we know) at this crazy guy's house.

No idea what to do; the cat returned to the crazy guy's house of it's own free will, but we'd rather it stayed with us. We can't keep the cat indoors since we have two other cats...

that sucks. if you consider josh yours, i'd call dude and tell him to fuck off and to bring your slutty cat home immeditaly. i mean, it has your name digitally encrypted in its ear right? seems fair to me. then make sure and stock pile food and play things (i dunno a couple live snakes or something? flying grey squirrells tied to a post?) in your yard to ensure he never wants to go hang out with that petty criminal again. good luck cat lover.
