Own a Ovation - Viper Solid body electric and think it is nice. If you like fenders and the output of P-90's you would probibly like one. Seems well construted. The string spaceing on the high e to the edge of the neck might be more generious but dosen't effect me much. Used it as a backup guitar for playing out of town were you are always worrying about the locals stealing your gear. Still see them arround for $300 seem like a bargan at that price.

Think that Ovation was trying something interesting and they do make nice guitars but because the headstocks on the acustics and electrics were the same I would think make them questionable to people who were not already into the bowl body acurstic guitars.

Active electronics in a guitar seem problematical so I never picked up any of the active Ovations (breadwinner and the Deacon) they must be damm loud though cause the non active ones are real loud. Rember they had plastic bridge parts thought that was odd the viper is all brass.

Has anyone ever owned or played an Electra Outlaw? Or any Electra guitar?

(It's the one on the left)

These Japanese guitars had built-in effects modules called MPCs.

More info.

Is Colin small? I have only seen him on stage, and he looks like...he's onstage.

I have a Dan Armstrong plexi bass, and it is very difficult to play standing up because it's balanced all wonky.

It was affordable, though. Which is why I still have it.

I have.

They were made in the same factory (Matsumoku) as Westones, Epiphones and Aria Pro IIs, although Electras were usually straight copies of Gibsons et al rather than the vaguely original designs of Westone and Aria.

Great guitars (as were the Westones and APIIs). Westones are still the best value, but all three are far better value than Tokai (prices are shooting up though).
