Oh whatever! There are plenty of frontmen who can't sing but are totally brilliant, and, while I wouldn't say Chris D. is BRILLIANT by any means, the first two flesh eaters albums are wonderful in almost every way.

While I did like the Gun Club, at least on their first album, I do agree with Steve's comments about at least part of their audience.

I agree Ace, the Flesheaters were much much better. Saw them live, once, and they were great. I love all of their recorded output.

The times I saw the Gun Club, the crowd was the same as any other Entry show. Same people, same clothing.

Mixing what, Blues with Punk is so bad? Blues Explosion?

i love fire of love and the las vegas story. that's all i have but based on those very not crap.

i've only heard Sex Beat and that makes me want to check out more...

People who were really into that band were pretty annoying around here. When I found out that JLP was a sometime Debbie Harry drag artist it made perfect sense. He, it and they were all about superficial affectation. It was all a drag show.

The Blues Explosion seemed to synthesize more than just bastardize and mimic. As did the Dicks, the Flesheaters, Mule, Hypstrz, Wipers and just about every other bluesy punk band that didn't suck super hardcore.

I have no idea about whether he is a good frontman or not. He is a good "producer" and his guitarring is fine. I have never seen them live, so I don't know what kind of show Chris D. puts on.

The first two Flesh eaters records are really good - except for the singing. The vox are mixed too loud and just off key. The vox ruin the records for me.

the flesh eaters are one of the best bands ever! the gun club are just okay.

oh...don't bother with "go tell the mountain." the jlp autobiography. that's pretty crap.

i changed my mind. just now while thinking about it i realized i have never suggested to anyone they check out this band. when people would ask me about them i'd say, "meh. it's not great, it's just kind of...there." i also remembered that when people put them on, i ask them to put on something else. that's a crap vote.

forgettable. the worst thing i think is some have heard so much music, that the standards have faltered. the ongoing need to keep hearing the unheard, so the guard is down when something new is heard. this cuts both ways, the ears are open, but the taste sensors are off. having heard so much easily identifiable crap the mediocre stands out more. doesn't really matter unless you're a musician who actually gets something done, and then it doesn't matter unless it influences you in a negative way. i've seen it all too often. a laughable tragedy. "holy shit, they bought that?!"

i guess the same thing happens at the beginning of a person's foray into actually paying attention to music. they don't know any better, and those bands linger on in the collections for nostalgia.

whatever. anyways, the gun club can go to hell. i couldn't remember a song if i tried. i got a bit of one in my head, where he starts reciting lines from "rebel, rebel." that doesn't really count though, it might just be "rebel, rebel."

Crap

The first album is not crap. Everything thereafter is middle-of-the-road crap. And Pierce always struck me as a self-aggrandizing prick, a Jim Morrison for the 80s Los Angeles set.
