Is the Zoom stuff built OK though?

I'm very impressed with the Little Big Muff's build. Super stout. My experience with Zoom stuff has not been good.

You can always say "well, you're $200 ahead, just buy another," but that doesn't help if you're playing a show.

What's your opinion?

Also, Boss just put out a new Fuzz, and it sounds great. Boss stuff holds up pretty well. I have some pedals that are over 20 years old and going strong.

believe me I thought the same thing. Zoom = shit. This short lived line of effects pedals actually are made of medal as oppossed to the plastic crap they normally pawn off on the consumer. They sound great and ive had mine for about 3 years without one issue. It has been my main source of dist / fuzz / chaos and I still find cool ass settings.

The only thing i would mention is that it performs differently running on batteries and running in a daisy chain. It also performs best as a Zvex FF substitute if its first in the signal chain. This however is super subtle and can be said about a number of pedals mentioned so far.

I would like a pedal that was fuzzy along those lines and not a metall-y distortion pedal. I have the EHX Graphic Fuzz and it's okay, but it's not very tame. I'd like something a little tighter sounding, I guess.
Theory: It sounds a lot like the fuzz on "Satisfaction," feels like the peak of the tone is in the same place, similar pretty-fuzzy-but-not-hyper-saturated sort of feel, not too much sustain. Richards was, the internet tells me, using a Maestro fuzz box on that track, so it seems like something of that sort would get you pretty close... or maybe one of those old Univox designs or such.

Reasonable theory?

the unit Richards used was probably a Maestro FZ1A Fuzztone.
a great fuzz, if you can find one in good conditions (production years: 1967 to 1974).
hasn't got much sustain, but still sounds great.

When the battery starts to fade a bit it get really wicked oscillation and aggressive sputter from the noise gate. Its quite nice really. When running through a daisy chain it gets constant power so not as much wild stuff going on.

I too am in the market for another. One for a fierce and focused fuzz the other for chaos.

Kerble next time your in mke try rockhouse or wades, I remember seeing them at a guitar store in mke and I really only shop at those 2, so it has to be one of them...
