Yr right. IBOLD on bass. That's pretty kickass, seabass...
As for the record it kicks so much ass I can taste the leather

32I can not wait to hear this record.
Although, I really hope Ibold is not playing bass with them this summer. Did any of you see Pavement live? Everytime I saw them, Malkmus spent half the set either A)showing Mark his bass parts before they started a song or B)playing the first few chords to Mark before the song started (presumably so Mark would know how the song "goes").
I can not say that I'm looking forward to Mark Ibold playing bass with Sonic Youth.

I saw Pavement on the Wowee Zowee tour in NY and I was at their final break up show in London. Never have I seen Steve show Mark his parts and each show totally ruled so maybe you need glasses or something but Ibold is actually an amazing bass player... This is coming from a bass player who's been playing for 12 years.

34I haven't heard the album, but I did purchase the newly released 7" which has 2 songs that were cut from the album (i think). I've only listened to it once, but they reminded me of earlier Sonic Youth, which is probably why they were cut.

I just ordered that 7" last night. Limited to 400? Psyched to get it.

Not to start an argument circusking but, oh well, what the hell!
A)I have glasses and they seem to work quite well in that they help me see.
B) Everytime I saw Pavement which was 5 times (once following Wowee Zowee, once following Brighten the Corners, and three nights in a row when Terror Twilight came out) Ibold pretty much sucked (especially the last three shows). All you had to do was watch him for 2 minutes and you could see that a lot of the time he had no clue what he was playing. The other big indicator was watching Malkmus do that thing where he kind of sang out the right side of his mouth while shooting disappointed looks in Ibold's direction as he was fucking shit up left and right (all you needed was ears for that to be apparent).
This coming from a person who's been playing drums for 16 years, guitar for 14 and bass for, well anyone who can play guitar can play bass...

If Ibold sucks so much why would Sonic Youth use him? They have been making music A LOT longer than any of us here. Why don't we leave it to the good judgement of Thurston Moore? Oui?
Ibold also played in Free Kitten as well.

Oh yeah, Thurston Moore sucks too. One time I saw Sonic Youth and he...just kidding.

That's kind of my question.
All I'm saying is that I think Sonic Youth is amazing, and the times I saw Pavement Ibold did nothing to impress me so it seems like a very odd match (Ibold's contriubutions to Free Kitten aside), so I guess we wait and see...

39see I think Free Kitten sucked. I loved Pavement. And, you're right, Sonic wouldn't use a shit bassist especially after doing a few years with Jim O'Rourke...
So there!
Last word!
