Any word on the street regarding how the new ones sound? It's damn expensive, but I've been drooling over the new SS20/40C Variable 20W/40W Custom Combo w/ 1x12 Fane Speaker

I heard they just got the rights for the Hiwatt name in the US very very recently. Lots of legal wrangling, but they finally did it.

Probably makes no difference either way.I'm in the UK, I've had a look at people building clones here but the prices make me blush.not sure about that, but the Reeves family started Hi-Tone & Mark Huss who's a force of amp building is their R&D guy. The amps sounded and looked amazing at NAMM. I wish they picked a different name, but they couldn't use Hiwatt or Reeves I imagine. Also there's no options for snakeskin on any of their models.edit: They'll probably put snakeskin on if you know the secret hand shake

I've been using a Verellen-made Hiwatt DR 405 clone for about years now for bass. It sounds great when paired with any Ampeg cab with 10s. Even though at 90 lbs, it's a pain to haul to shows, it's become an essential piece of equipment.

Hi-Tone is located about 30 minutes south of me; once I learned that fact, my perennial dream of someday owning a Hiwatt became a dream to drive down there and buy one of their wares instead (once I finally secured Tone Attorney employment, maybe). If they're going to be officially-branded Hiwatt amps, the siren song emanating from Columbus just became deafening.

I dont have any need for a Hi-Tone amp, and I also acknowledge that this is firmly riding David Gilmour's sack, but holy crap I want one of their knockoff WEM cabs*edit* just realize the cabs cost more than i'd charge for a Hiwatt head. Bummer. Wonder if they'd just sell me a few yards of that grill cloth....
