Bump.
Not crap. Cell Scape is flat-out the best alarm clock ever. You need to get something done? Put Cell Scape on.

NOT CRAP
not even close to crap, one of my favorite bands.
I like Speak, Squeak, Creak a real lot, I think it is the first full length. More extended techniques and strange playing on guitar and less pedals than the later stuff. Really cool record. Recorded by Albini and it sounds great.
The last song is the previous 24 all played at the same time.

a youtube clip of them w/ mike watt doing "bob dylan wrote propaganda songs."

Completely NOT CRAP.
Ichirou Agata is one of the few "current" noise-rock guitarist that has a distinguishable style, and Sudoh Toshiaki was pretty kick-ass drummer, in any respect. They were noisy but never unnecessarily so, which means goddamn good, in my book.
Charlie was their best album, closely followed by Scratch or Stitch. They're newer ones like Bambi's Dilemma and Cell-Scape was better than "ok".

Fast "strumming" (I'll be more specific. Listen to "Rough dogs have bumps" off of Scratch or Stitch) usually sounds like limp-wristed filler to me. He does NOT sound limp-wristed.

Cell-Scape is GREAT, but also the last I've heard from these guys. Haven't really thought about them in recent years. Great band, though.

I have a friend, a classical cellist, who took up bass guitar because seeing Melt Banana live made him want to be in a rock band.
For that alone, Not Crap.

Bambi's Dilemma came out last year and was their first full-length of new material since
Cell-Scape. It sort of continues the progression they were making of moving into a more poppier direction...that is, what passes for "pop" in the Melt-Banana universe, of course.
Choppy just got their contribution to the Dark Beloved Cloud singles series, and it contains a studio recording of their cover of Devo's "Uncontrollable Urge." It is completely unfuckwithable.
