The more shocking it seems, that two years later they still had only one beat at their disposal. And that's with Joey moving away from the drumkit.
I'm sure BYOP will be able to manage at least two kinda rhythms in a couple of years, now that Jamine has quit.

My point really is that, sure the Ramones did have one beat, but they were also making fresh and exciting music for their time. Their beats were a signature sound for them. BYOP sounds like a lot of other bands who do what they are doing and the beats really aren't signature. Give them a few years, they could be the best band on the planet, who knows. The guitars and vocals are pretty good. The songs aren't total crap, it's just not written as well as others like them and the hype their getting is like congratulating a baby for finishing their lunch without spilling it all over the kitchen.

Just curious.

Im beginning to understand why music from Germany sucks.

I couldn't agree more.
Still, no reason to get personal.
Let me get one thing straight though, I love the Ramones. Although I wish they had quit before they became a parody of themselves (in the first half of 78 ).
However, what I found rather intriguing was the fact, that the Ramones didn't pretend to be dumb, they actually were.
I mean like, touring for five year without exchanging a word sounds rather sad to me. How daft can you get?
But that makes them all the more lovable and real.
Still, to argue that BYOP are crap because the only have one beat is missing the point completely.
If it's a groove, who cares?!
Actually I think the drummer is dead good and I'm sorry to hear that he has quit.
Cheers

Well I think BYOP are the most exciting and fresh Band at this point in time (frankly, I'm not aware of everything that's happening) and I fear that in a few years they will become as boring and Rock and average as the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are right now. Maybe there is a bit of a Hype because they look good on stage and come from a middle class background, but I think their songs are dead good.

Do you play in a band? I'm just wondering, because I find that my taste for music has been shaped by the kind of music my band plays. I don't listen to certain types of music as much anymore, it just doesn't excite me as it used to. I don't listen to ONLY the kind of music I play, it's just that it's skewed my perspective a bit.

My other thought on this is that I've played with a lot of bands over the years that I think are more interesting that BYOP, but don't have the same opportunities. I don't dislike them, I actually think there are some interesting things in their music. They just don't excite me. Like, the first time I heard Aframes, I didn't know what to do with myself. I was just laying on the ground in a puddle of my own juices.

No, errrr, sadly enough, I don't play in a band cause, well, as my piano teacher put it so bluntly, I have no musical talent whatsoever. I know, that doesn't stop a lot of people to actually form a band, but there you are.
Me, being 39, I got a bit sick of being screamed at by punked up teenagers roughly 10 years ago and then got interested in Bossa Nova. Actually, most Music I listen to nowadays is Bossa Nova and Jazz, but every once in a while there comes a Punk Rock Band that still does it for me. When I heard the BYOP record I had the same feeling, as I had 18 years ago when I heard 'You're living all over me' for the first time, or 94, when the third Boss Hog record came out. Don't know, it just does something for me. I reckon it's not contrived or anything. At least, it sounds pretty real to me.

Be your own Pet are the best Band around.
They are incredible
They are everything that Rock'n'Roll should be.
Sharp, fast, noisy, catchy
Apart from that, they are everything most bands wish they would be.
tight, fun, sexy, crisp
And they have a sense of humour
If in doubt, go here:

And they actually write a decent tune.
I've have 24 Songs by them and not one bad track among those. Actually, they are all great.
Can you ask for more?
I even like the name
and Jeminas Voice
And the drumming
Guess I'm a bit of a fan

I speak from a point of relative objectivity, having heard the band once and being no more or less than supremely uninterested. But let's be totally honest here for a second . . .

dimpfelmoser, are you a member of Be Your Own Pet?

What's it with you people? Can't one be enthusiastic about a Band without ulterior motives? I simply like their sound, and the songs, and the groove.
Well all right, I also think the singer looks kinda cute.
And psssssst, I've heard she never showers.
But don't tell anyone.
cheers
