It seems like Jam-Band-With-A-Plan to me.

Please explain what I'm missing?

Evidently, you're missing the fucking point.

Along with Art Ensemble of Chicago, my two most listened to bands right now.
Also some of my biggest influences as far as approach to song writing go.

i thought this was going to be about supergroupitis, the "less than the sum of its parts" disease. (praxis, yona kit, etc.)

hm... i can't think of something that REALLY fits this category (friends get you pumped, you hear it and hate it).

but i can think of things i thought were overrated, didn't really get into, etc.:

Prince. a few songs i might get into, but mostly i cannot dig it. "working part time at a 5 and dime" that song blows. even the acclaimed "sign of the times"... no.

joy division. um, i had a phase with love will tear us apart. that's it. everything else i disliked immediately, and after i heard that song a hundred times it wasn't the same.

the stickmen were sort of disappointing in that a friend told me (and other people!) that this was "(my last name) rock". i wasn't sure what that meant and when i heard it i was a little confused and disappointed. but, it's still good.

Ha. Ha. Ha. This is one of many reasons I hate these kinds of threads - so people can spout off why the dislike well-liked bands in an effort to hope they're not alone.

Are you talking about Midwest bands from '81-83 or are you talking about Midwest bands that didn't start an entire movement? Because frankly, while there's always time to innovate something, it's not often you're there at the forefront.

I'd say, given the time period, Minor Threat was fucking amazing. And I'd still rather listen to their entire discography than a lot of "hardcore" music being produced today.

Edit: As an aside, I also dislike the critique/defense layout of musical discussion, so I trust you'll appreciate the irony of my reply.

Most of side one is really good! As a whole though, it's not a very solid record. And "Adventure?" Yeesh.

I'm rolling with a CD on this one. If it starts with "Elevation," then I say two things to you, Horsewhip:

1. I liked the first two Luna albums best.

2. I like the second half of MM just fine. "Guiding Light" sounds like a later U2 song.
Our band.
