Gravediggaz, PE, GZA, Company Flow, Themselves, Cannibal Ox, EL-P, Aesop Rock, Madlib, Dalek (and faust), cLOUDDEAD & Aesop Rock have all released some of my favourite albums.
I am really looking forward to Cannibal Ox's follow up to The Cold Vein;which was, imo, one of the best records of the last ten years. Hip Hop or otherwise.

The good stuff is truly great. A window into a world I rarely see, as a white middle class guy.
The bad stuff is the worst music being made today.
Really, this is not too different from rock music. There is so much music being made that varies in style and aesthetic. To dismiss the genre as a whole would be only slightly less foolhardy than dismissing the entire rock genre. Also, considering many of the posters on this board are only familiar with the most mainstream stuff that gets play on radio and MTV2, it's like dissing the entire rock genre based on the merits of say, Jet and Fall Out Boy.
Spot on. w3rd

33Loves me good hip-hop, hate most of the rap. Managed to see a bunch of good hip-hop in my day and living in the Northwest there's a bunch of creative hip-hop folk up in this neck of the woods.

36Like a lot of rock/indie people, I really like that mos def album, black on both sides, but most other hip-hop goes over my head*.
I don't get the references, I don't know good from bad, I can't really tell what's being said. I suppose if I listened to a lot more of it I'd get an idea, but I have no real desire to listen to it to find out, because it would seem like a chore now, and there's enough other music to keep me occupied.
I don't hate it specifically, I think some of it is sexist and stupid, but I like that mos def album just fine.
*much like a lot of indie/rock people don't know crap about classical music but love goreckis symphony of sorrowful strings because it could almost be postrock.

37I know absolutely nothing about hip-hop/rap apart from my huge love of 'Raising Hell' and 'Fear of a Black Planet'.
I also really, really like MC Solaar, although I am almost certain that this is not something I should be stating in public.
Other than that, meh.

39I actually like hip hop.
This is absolutely correct. I couldn't have said it better myself (literally - I tried and I couldn't). Horsewhip! Nice work!

Why do you make it so scary to post here.

40We've gone through this before, but I think pretty much what people have said above covers it.
Someone here suggested MF Doom who I've been getting into recently.
Fear Of A Black Planet by PE is a good album. Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos is a classic old-school tune:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6zvEj0jpU4
Very in-your-face.
Wu-Tang 36 Chambers - great album, made by a bunch of mental-cases. This is Hiphop written by people who genuinely had something to write about. They had unique vocal styles, and the Rza's instrumentals were pretty well written, although not brilliantly produced.
Cypress Hill Black Sunday and Temples Of Boom are two of the three good Cypress albums. Black Sunday is the classic Cypress album which has Hits From The Bong, etc. They aren't to be taken seriously as it is mainly Gangsta, but I do appreciate some of their lyrics. Temples Of Boom is a strange one, about two thirds is very good, the other third is pish. Of the good tracks, Illusions is a good song which is actually quite honest and sad even. It has a great beat. Boom Biddy Bye Bye is one of the funniest songs I've ever heard. It's about killing someone, but manages to make the whole deal utterly ridiculous.
I'd agree that Jurassic 5 are a bit of a joke - they are almost like a boy band. That said, the EP with Concrete Schoolyard is good and is in a way a good introduction because it's so easy going.
DJ Shadow's Entroducing is a well crafted record. All instrumental and taking influence from various genres. It's quite "white" sounding, but I don't think this really means anything. Just a point. Has some great beats, and the production is spot on.
Dilated People's first album, The Platform is pretty good. Great instrumentals, top class scratching from DJ Babu which is well integrated into the songs, and two fairly diverse MCs who are both good. Their second album is also pretty good, but there are signs of them turning commercial / radio freindly already. However, this album has Proper Propaganda on it which was DJ Babu's first ever song he had written which is a cracker.
Here's some earlier Dilated Peoples: (beware vinyl fans, for there is a man dong nasty things to records in this video)

KRS-One has released some great songs. Probably his best know is Sound Of Da Police:

KRS also joined Zack de la Rocha, and Last Emperor to write this song (CIA) which was great:
