Josef K wrote:Ranx, I have absolutely no idea what math is but within your criteria of angular noise, I'd recommend early 80's post punkster pop outfit Big Flame. They released a number of cracking singles and a 10" on Ron jonson records.

Everyone should get everything on Ron Johnson. Especially The Noseflutes. They ruled.

No, I did a google search for it and found this site:

http://www.machineswithmagnets.com/sampson/

They have all 3 of the EP tracks in MP3 format.

Here is a direct link to the directory the MP3s are in:

Thanks for the tip, Sir Comrade--

that drill for absentee record has nice moments, I think I read the guys website once and it actually had maths on it explaining the songs

edit: ok it's not maths, but check out the anal-retentive attention to detail

God these guys were awesome.

Jon just emailed me to say that he's been looking to release the album, so it may well come out...15 years later. And he is back doing art and music again. Stay tuned...

Nace was doing a revivalist banjo picking thing in the area, but haven't heard from him for a little while.

Some people liked my band.

There's a myspace link in my signature.

I apologize for the instrumental-ness of it. I'll never be in an instrumental band ever again. Promise. "Clear Change" is with me, the others were pre-wiggins. Pre- those songs, though, this band was real force to be reckoned with. Started off as His Hero Is Gone-like hardcore, and then decided to quit the distortion and start listening to US Maple. Cool shit.

Personally, I like Colossamite. Not that obscure.

Lynx, Volto Do Mar, and Paul Newman are boring, Minus The Bear College-Pop-Radio-Girl math rock for girls and misguided male film-school students that call it "Math Rock".

There's a couple bands in the ATL suburbs that I recorded that sound like this, yet manage to be more boring. Imagine that.
