We gave them money and a song in like Jan or Feb of this year (it was the one that came out in April with an all black cover). It got put on the CD and everything, we didn't have any problems.
In fact I know where you can get about 30 copies of that issue real cheap.
I'm not helping am I.
Sorry that happened to you guys.

Sorry. It seemed like a good deal...
I can't say I've ever written a check to anyone to promote, distribute, or "expose" any bands I've been in.
This, to me, is an arguably much different scenario. "Pay us money and we'll put your band on a comp". I sure wouldn't bother.
I think this happens all the time. I am regularly solicited to pay to be on a Magnet comp. I consider it each time.
I guess I've never been that desperate for attention, or have had any dreams of "making it in the music industry", which is the only reason I can see for paying this sort of money to have your music heard.

I'm really not disagreeing with you here, all I'm trying to say is that someone pays to promote a band, whether it is the band itself, or someone on their behalf who will ultimately be compensated on one level or another for their efforts.
If you are in a position to handle all of that malarky yourself, then yours is an enviable position.
And one long walk up the mountain for others to emulate, myself included.
Still walking,
Chimp

hmmm...
'dreams of making it in the music industry' ... yeah, that was what we were going for by being a part of this comp -- a pretty sad and desperate attempt, i now know.
or maybe it seemed like a good way to get like-minded people - people who read a magazine we read - to hear your music.
You write songs and record them? - For free? Do you pay to make CD's? or are those free too? Would you give CDbaby (or whatever) 5% (or whatever) to do their thing?
Making music takes some investment. I think there is alot of room between twiddlin your guitar in your room and Bon Jovi. [i know there is a joke in there somewhere]

Ignoring the jabs, I re- wrote:...all I'm trying to say is that someone pays to promote a band, whether it is the band itself, or someone on their behalf who will ultimately be compensated on one level or another for their efforts.

Hustler.
20 years ago, the Sun City Girls were in negotiations with Larry Flynt about having a flexi-disc of their song "Nancy" (the lyrics describe, in some detail, Mrs. Reagan's carnal relations with Mr T., Jesus Christ, etc.- you can hear it on the "Horse Cock Phephner" LP) in Hustler.
I guess it came pretty close to happening.

There's way more room to twiddle your guitar in Jon Bon Jovi?

Can we please drop the idea that wanting other people to hear your music is a bad thing? Can we please?
Zom-zom, you have a website listed in your profile. Are you desperate for attention or something?

because until you get the full story, it's good form to not drag anyone's name through the mud.
also, fuck off.
